waves and wires

Gentle readers,

I have links, Worldcon news, and a variety of recommendations for you.

A long interview with me appeared on my public library's blog recently. Check it out! (And please admire my shiny new official author photo, while you're at it.) Meanwhile, an anarchist heavy metal podcast reviewed North Continent Ribbon:

(The book discussion comes after the philosophizing and the featured album. If you're philosophically focused on the question of whether you can save a .jpg to a bird, I think the original source is here.)

I caught covid recently, in this summer's wave. My case was mild (one-way masking doesn't completely block the virus, but it does help!), but I've still spent a lot of time over the past few weeks aggressively resting and hoping not to relapse. Some of my pleasanter distractions included Kai Ashante Wilson's novella A Taste of Honey, which has an interesting fantasy-novel reframing of classical Roman culture, the Eight Days of Diana Wynne Jones podcast, the roguelike poker-themed game Balatro, which is just as addictive as everyone says, and the French-American-Brazilian singer-and-cellist duo Birds on a Wire.

I'm feeling better, and at this point, I'm reasonably confident that I'll make it to Worldcon later this week. My schedule is here, if you'd like to catch me; I'm also doing one off-site reading, if you'll be in Seattle but not at the con. My friend Heather Rose Jones is up for a Hugo award for best fan writing (with a hefty dose of statistical analysis!) and I'm looking forward to dressing up in my most stunning nerd finery and cheering her on.

Closer to home, Gennoveus celebrated my recovery with a perfect tail curl:

Yours,

Ursula.
