sky yachts and oracles
Worthiest of readers,
This letter is full to the brim with stories and collections. I reviewed Ann Leckie's Lake of Souls recently, which is one of those collections where each story shows you a different facet of the writer's mind. Meanwhile, Marie Vibbert interviewed me about North Continent Ribbon. We talked about self-driving cars, huge moral dilemmas, and my struggle to find synonyms for "woven". If you're looking for more writing about class divisions, unusual modes of transport, and extremely sexy people, check out Marie's new sky-yacht-racing story Rail Meat. (I love her space-motorcycle novel Galactic Hellcats, too.)
The Neon Hemlock Kickstarter that includes North Continent Ribbon is in full swing. They're even making oracle cards (like Tarot cards, but not fitting any of the traditional Arcana) for each of the books. North Continent is "The Resistance". It's a really cool card and also, hilariously, an image that would be much racier on Nakharat, where half-covered hair has a shirt-slipping-off-the-shoulders vibe. I like to think the image represents Rauzanet of "Twelve Thousand Flowers", who's an excellent poster girl for the resistance.
I spent a while pondering what oracle cards I would choose if I could have one for every story in the collection: the Khanym, the Soldier, the Judge, the Sex Worker, the Hacker, and the Ship? Or should we substitute the Assassin, the Heir (child's braids swinging), or the Engineer? (Tell me if you have ideas!)
Here's Kosmas doing a surprisingly good rendition of the Teddy Bear:
Very truly yours,
Ursula.
