once and future poems
Gallant readers,
Rosalind's Siblings, which contains my post-societal-crumbling protest poem "Circle Packing," is officially released today. I can also promise future poetry, in the shape of an Analog issue: I recently signed a contract for "Beyond the Standard Model," which is about hypothetical high-energy particle physics and climbing very high spiral staircases. Somewhere between past and future, an anthology of poetry from Asimov's and Analog edited by Emily Hockaday has just been announced--it's coming out from Interstellar Flight Press around National Poetry Month next year!--so stay tuned for more ways to fill your real or virtual bookshelves with poems.
I've mentioned before that I reserve some of my writing income for frivolous purposes. (I say "frivolous," but in the midst of all these semi-virtual milestones, there's something to be said for tangible markers.) Recently I invoked that rule to buy a waterproof camera. It's heavy, and clunky in the way that my very first camera was clunky--I've been spoiled by the airy gestures of cell phone interfaces--but it means that if I rent a city kayak and amble along the river, I can show you turtles.
Closer to home, Gennoveus appreciates the way autumn weather means new blankets to sprawl upon or burrow beneath.
Very truly yours,
Ursula.
