Welcome to Work Stuff! Allow me to introduce myself.

Hello! Welcome to my newsletter, Work Stuff. You’ll receive practical and actionable career advice directly in your email inbox. Whatever you do to make sure you get your important emails, do it to this newsletter so it doesn't go into your spam pile.

We’ll discuss things like work-life balance, problem solving, and how to communicate clearly with your coworkers. Think of it as a personal note from me to you on how to navigate certain situations at work.

You can also expect productivity tips and tricks, interesting and fun links, words of wisdom, and photos of my cats.

I started this newsletter for a couple reasons. First, I simply enjoy writing, so this is my creative outlet (more on that in a bit). Second, I’ve been asked for career advice in the past and helped out coworkers in unique situations, and I really enjoyed it. I love helping people, so I thought I'd share this knowledge with anyone who wants to listen.

If nothing else, let’s get you a raise! You’d be shocked at the number of people who’ve come to me asking how to get a raise from their boss, because they’ve never gotten a raise and have never asked for one. I want to change that!

This newsletter won’t be long. My goal is to keep every issue concise, so it only takes you a few minutes to read. I also want it to be fun and laid back. I’m a technical writer, so most of my writing is purposely dry and unentertaining. This newsletter is where I can truly be myself and write however I want, and I want to take full advantage of that.

Let me be clear about something: I’m not a career coach, and I’m not an expert. So there are some things I just don’t know or won’t have the answers to. Or I'll just be plain wrong about something!

But I do have a lot of the answers. I’ve been in the workforce for nearly 15 years and have held almost a dozen different jobs. I’ve worked in retail, I’ve worked in the trades, I’ve worked in factories, I’ve worked in corporate offices, and I’ve worked from home. I’ve had amazing bosses, I’ve had horrible bosses, and I’ve even been a boss myself.

You may not agree with me. That’s ok! There are a lot of ways to handle situations at work. My hope is that I provide the best practical advice for most people. And hell, maybe I’ll have questions for you, and I’d love to hear your answers.

I’m glad you’re here!

In the meantime, what topics do you want to see? Let me know by replying to this email. And if you think a friend or family member would be interested in this newsletter, please forward this along to them! You can also follow me on Instagram for my off-hours shenanigans.
