Dealing with Difficult People
one. The Big Picture.
At the end of 2021, after four years of part-time study, I finished my MBA. I'd wanted to study an MBA for many years, so I was glad to make it to the end! Just what did I learn about in the MBA? Here's the big picture overview.
The first subject we did at the start of the MBA was called "Executive Blueprint", teaching us how to understand our own leadership style, and building confidence in our own ability. Then we had core subjects to get through - corporate finance, accounting and financial management, managing people and organisations, and marketing management. Then there were the electives - while I really wanted to do the international trip to China, it was unavailable due to COVID so I ended up doing governance and ethics, negotiation, and economics. And then we had the final year: strategic leadership, innovation, growth, and transformation.
Some subjects were about how to lead, manage, and work with an organisation, others were about how to lead, manage and transform ourselves. But the best part of doing an MBA was the people I met. Impressive people, who nonetheless embraced the challenge of study, and sought to improve themselves, so they could make the world a better place.
I caught up with some of my MBA friends and one of them was saying how much there was to cover in the MBA, and how they wanted to go back over their notes. I thought I would do something to help me stay accountable to making sure I go back over my notes to make sure I've learned everything I can from the experience.
And I thought you might be interested too. Have you wondered what is covered in an MBA? And how it might help you be better as a leader, as someone with workplace responsibilities, or just as someone trying to learn some new ways of thinking? Follow along with me, and let's see what we can learn together.
I'm keen to hear from you - hit reply to let me know what you think.
