WoT News #15

Hello, Words of Type News readers!
It’s been a long long time since the last newsletter (sent in late February this year) 🫣
As an excuse, I had to take some time away, and for a great reason: my partner and I are overjoyed for the birth of our baby daughter who was born in late March 🐣
Now I’m getting (slowly but surely) back to business!

I. Previously…

We had a lecture and workshop on Japanese type design which was a blast! And we are considering to do a rerun next year, for those who might have missed it, or couldn’t join the workshop because it was full. Stay tuned if you are interested!

There were also a great conversation on Thai type design between Mint Tantisuwanna and Boom Suksumek, followed by their workshop on Thai lettering, for the first time in Thai language to make it more accessible for Thai designers!

KBI Type Design 2026’s group ”photo” 😀

The second edition of KBI Type Design started in June 23, with three cohorts, 25 participants, and an awesome team!
Check out the students project on the website!
KBI Type Design is set to continue every year until at least 2029, again, with different ”non-Latin” cohorts each year alongside Decolonizing Latin.
For 2027, we’ll share news when the application process will begin (very very soon!), so stay tuned if you’re interested or wish to share the news!
