WoT News #12
Encyclopedia
It is not only nice but also important to get your voice heard, if you have any thoughts or things to say about the Encyclopedia, because it is made for everyone. Things could be always better, but I move forward one (baby) step at a time.

So I created this Words List & Status page (Notion page, you can easily view it on your browser), with the words in the waiting list, to be added in future updates.
WoT members can also VOTE for which words will get priority for the next update (we are aiming for late 2026 - early 2027). So, members, check out the “Next in WoT” in the Community space, and you’ll find the link to the voting form!
WoT Events
There will be no more lectures and workshops for the end of 2025. We all need time to keep up at finish whatever needs to be done before the year closes, and time to rest! 🫠
BUT, here is a sneak peek (not published yet) of what is coming in 2026!
- Schriften, Lettering, Écritures: 174 slides about Walter Käch (lecture), with Fabian Harb (Dinamo) — January 23
- Cinema & StereoType (lecture), with Aaron Levin — January 31
- Arabic typography & lettering (lecture + workshop), with Samar Zureik — February
- Devanagari typography & type design (lecture + workshop), with Kimya Gandhi — March
- Hangeul script & lettering (lecture + workshop), with Min-Young Kim & Mingoo Yoon — April
- Japanese typography & type design (lecture + workshop), with Yui Yoshitomi & Ikumi Honda — May
- and much more!!!
If there is any topic that you’d like to see, or want to collaborate with us on a lecture and/or workshop, let us know!
WoT Conversation Ep. 6

December 6, 2025 — 4 to 5:30 PM CET
Topic: Font Engineering
Guests: Rafał Buchner, Frank Grießhammer, Emma Marichal, Stephen Nixon, Rosalie Wagner.
We will talk about the path to learn font engineering, challenges in the field with today’s requirements, and more!
Community 2.0
Since Circle app (what our community platform is based on) isn’t used that much by our community members, due to multiple things, we are exploring other options to make things easier for everyone.
Maybe open a Discord or Slack for WoT, on which members will get to discuss easily. And we are working on a new platform website, on which you will be able to purchase your tickets directly.
If you have any opinions or better ideas to share, we are all ears!
KBI 2026

The KBI (short for Knuth Bigelow Incubator) program runs again next year!!!
This is a collaborative effort between SILICON program at Stanford University, Letterform Archive, and Words of Type.
And just like its first edition, we are planning for 5 weeks between June and July 2026 with lectures and workshops to teach the basics of type design to those who wish to learn the art with two tracks: Decolonizing Latin or Digitally Underserved Script(s).
Again, selected participants join the program with tuitions fully covered!
Applications are open until November 14.
More information about the program and application form at https://www.kbitype.org/
If you have any question, feel free to ask me!
WE NEED YOU
We always need help to get going. There are many options to contribute:
- membership if you’re an individual;
- sponsorship if you’re a type foundry;
- partnership (to sponsor our events) if you’re a company or type foundry;
- donations too!
Please reach out and/or share this to make it happen 💫
Okay, that’s all for this month.
Thanks for reading, following, supporting, everything 💖
