delighted to benefit from the attention you've been paying!
i think it's def attention span but i've been trying to unpack that & social attention in general, so i'm curious if you think this connects:
i'm reminded of tufekci's "twitter and tear gas" thesis that the speed and ease of online organizing resulted in left-revolutionary movements without logistical capacity or staying power ... that seems to be what's happening here, tho our Goebbels did at least capture the state more thoroughly!
wild how you can still see the periodicity of the vortex street in the second, but it's buffered by the other turbulence from throwing much momentum around
a bit silly of me to put here, but wanted to let you know that your writing & your video for Edmonds inspired me to finally learn how to Post as a way to participate in societal conversations beyond the organizing work i do.
on first read i heard "conflict" for your "antagonism" and was gonna say that i was so worried about the mom as a kid ... but that's a really interesting nuance, that the conflict is about fear/hope inside and between the sisters, not about an enemy.
the post focuses on a different point, but i'm pondering now how taste and critique, i.e. clowning on poorly dressed knaves, interacts with respectability and moralization without being a moralizing of respectability
i've been wondering a lot how to create practices of mutual intellectual esteem, bc reading groups aren't cutting it and meetings don't do enough to establish the common ground necessary for learning together.
in tenant and labor unions i've often seen people seeking to leave their brief moment of self-motivated Doing for the comfort of Being Told. difficult in many ways to step out of that authority trap!
some part of me is soothing by wondering how to strengthen the coalition that will arise and to tie it to a positive politics ... all my political work has been in unions so far but right now i have difficulty seeing them as the institutions that can lead this in the next year, which is a shock.
