Driving north from SF? Give FM 96.1 a listen, for its interstitial musics.
In the city you'll hear a Portugese talk show, then over the Gate and under the rainbow this fades to classical compositions of string instruments. Violins guide you through the tunnel to emerge blinking into the light, but lying in wait is an ambush of Chinese pop songs. Battle is met over Marin; attacks and other high-energy sounds are damaged (the cost of war). Eventually jazzy Singaporeans overpower the strings.
suddenly katy perry shoots across the bow
dj Sonoma is in the hills now
your swerve and dip, curve and rise
put Fireworks' vocals under talk radio lies
interrupt the caller-on-air with instrumentals electric
weaving disruptions to dazzling effect.
written July 8 2014; I tried today (surprisingly still remembering the frequency) but the replacement of pop with christmas music was underwhelming (kick drums sound wicked cool interstitially; there should be holiday tunes with kick drums?) and it seems only two stations still fight.
