before the eclipse

wonder systems

i.
There's a moment, before the eclipse happens,
before the milk hits the floor, before the bee finds
the entrance to its hive, before actually meeting,
that hangs heavy with suspended expectation.
We want to be surprised; we do not want to be
surprised; we dance the dance of many paths
trying not to stare or wink. Such solidity can
only melt to liquids vapours and other gazes,
and in the midst of all this carefulness is revealed
(of course) a grand recklessness; a rudder
unattended steers always to the fastest flow,
and adventure finds all wanderers.
