Welcome to WOD About It!
I’d like to welcome you to the latest corner of the interwebs that I’ve been working on. I’ve long been into the blogging game, and over the last year, I’ve also discovered a new passion for fitness. During the first few months of the pandemic, my wife and I started looking at ways to improve our bodies and health.
So we set out to find out what works for us. Well, honestly she went first! I’ve always been the reluctant husband who never wanted to join the gym. I’ve never liked the idea of hanging with a bunch of meatheads who want to yell and lift 600 lbs. Fortunately, my wife was able to convert me this time after joining a local functional fitness box near us.
To my surprise, it was the exact opposite of what I had envisioned. The people have been the main reason we’ve lasted a full year now. They were very open and helpful to not only give us directions but just general support.
Starting a gym for the first time in my life was humbling. I have always been naturally trimmed, but I had no idea how much strength I’d lost after years of no real physical challenges. My first attempt at a deadlift was in my mind a disappointing 75lbs, but I was immediately met with praise and encouragement from the other guys in the class.
While the gym we’ve chosen isn’t an official Crossfit location, I’ve found around the internet that this is a common theme. Functional fitness classes seem to be a great spot to learn how to challenge and shape your body in a community-based program. I truly believe it’s why these styles of centers are so popular.
Now that we’ve established the backstory, what is WOD About It? Well, I’m still feeling that out but I wanted a space to share my experiences and review items I’ve been using in the gym. This will include shoes, equipment, and possibly even technology like fitness trackers.
