[WWC #6] - The First Full Draft!
There's this lovely heartwarming video that you likely have seen. It's a young Maggie Rodgers demo-ing her music to Pharell:
It's a lovely moment - Maggie is clearly super nervous, Pharell is clearly super impressed. It's sweet and nice. I think a lot of people focus on this nervousness from Maggie.
But! As the song gets going Maggie clearly starts to just groove to her own music! She's like "f-yeah this is some good stuff!". She just can't help herself.
Ok, I promise this is about my book. As I've been slogging through the editing and re-read process I had two moments this week where I too was grooving to my own tune. Listen, I don't think I'm all that great a writer but occasionally there are some bits that make me grin ear to ear. Just small little moments that give me faith that there's something here...
The first moment was contrasting Clayton Christensen and Roger Spitz against reddit user DM_me_booty_pics:
The second moment was re-reading The Contrary Consultant. This whole piece still speaks deeply to me 4 years after I wrote it:
Ok, I think I buried the lede. I finished my full read-through and I sent the First Full Draft to my editor. She's going to do a full pass next week while I'm skiing with the kids.
