[WWC #4] - The Trifecta Flip-Flop
A short one because I've been busy. I've been blogging my head off which is resulting in 5+ coffee meetings a week.
But - the book is still a priority and this email list is a nice little accountability function.
So. Editing.
I think I've finally figured out a nice little editing workflow - it involves a little flip flop between three different tools:
- My Remarkable Tablet
- Figma
- Google Docs
It goes like this. I've loaded a PDF of my book draft onto my Remarkable tablet which is just a perfect form factor for reading the book, adding notes and so on without getting distracted by trying to write more words (or browse twitter...).
Then, I created chapter summaries in Figma that look a bit like this:
(I'm not yet sure if these are going to exist in the final book - but they might! I like the idea that they are good references to return to after you've read the book)
Then, good old Google Docs for the actual editing and re-writing work.
The key is that it's not a linear process - it's a lovely, looping flip-flop back and forth between them. Figma, Remarkable, Google docs. Google docs, Remarkable, Figma. Figma, Figma, Google Docs, Figma, Remarkable, Figma, Google Docs.
You get the idea.
This is a loop between "what the book is about" (figma summary), "close reading" (remarkable) and "the words" (google doc).
Anyway - I'm cranking. I'm busy. Fingers clickety clacking. It's good.
Next week - more editing and a few phone calls with potential editors for the book. And another 5+ coffee meetings.
(The looming problem of course is that all this editing work is just expanding the manuscript - we'll deal with that demon another time).
46 days, 8 hours, 51 minutes until spring.
Much love.
