EnergyLogic's 140H Waste Oil Heater — and the Oil It Cannot Buy

EIA prices residential propane at $2.674 a gallon, with 91,452 BTU in it. EnergyLogic's 140H makes 140,000 BTU an hour on a gallon of used motor oil.

That hour displaces $4.09 of propane. The complete system, with a 250-gallon tank, is $11,799.

Break-even is 2,883 burner hours — which is also 2,883 gallons of oil, and federal rule says every one of them has to be yours.
