Returning to myself
Dear reader,
When chaos is swirling all around us, it's hard to take the time to think of anything else. But, I believe in times like these, it's so important to maintain calm and not become cynical. It's also crucial to care for yourself both emotionally and physically.
My family and I are currently rewatching Lord of the Rings together, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. The corruption of power and not allowing darkness and evil to prevail seems quite relevant. We all could use Gandalf on our side, but it's important to remember that we also have the power within each of us to enact change. As Galadriel says to Frodo, "even the smallest person can change the course of the future." Alone, we might be small, but together we are not.
How do I stay focused and calm myself during these times?
It's always important to nourish yourself with good food, and that's so important now, when our nervous systems are drained. My family and I rarely ever go out to eat. Instead, we prepare and eat nourishing meals together.
This one is especially challenging for me. My mind is always racing, but calming herbs and meditation are crucial.
I do not shop at any big box stores either IRL or online. I buy locally, shop at thrift stores, or make things myself.
I've been making herbal remedies from herbs that I grow in my garden for many years.
Technically Monday-Friday, because I do take weekends off. I've been doing this for more than half my life and I could not live without it.
I try to complete at least one project everyday. Immersing myself in my art practice really allows me to stay focused and calms my anxiety.
This is the best part of my day. I would honestly work as a professional dog walker.
I love my family and I am so grateful for them.
Animals are a constant source of joy for me.
This is life giving.
It's easy to lose yourself in the chaos. When I need a huge detox, I delete my social media accounts for as long as I need to recharge.
I hope you are finding your own calm.
xo, Christa
