whygodwhy #09: Bellarinas & IRL

I wrote about Bellarina drama the other day. Bellarinas are people who worship the actress Bella Thorne. If you don't know who Bella Thorne is, it doesn't matter. This is just an email. You'll forget everything you read here the second you archive it anyway. Basically: Bella Thorne is an actress, and one of her fans was doing a sort of online roleplay as her butt. My point in writing about this wasn't "This is creepy" (although that maybe was the subtext). My point was just: the internet is weird, and celebrity worship is weird, and the ways we engage and interact with each other on the internet are weird and only getting weirder. 

And as if to prove my point, my post quickly hit the Bellarina tumblrsphere, where reaction varied from "f*ck you, bitch" to "go f*ck yourself". THE INTERNET. I thought about posting again to clarify that I hadn't intended any calumny towards people who worship Bella Thorne, and in fact was trying to express some kind of sympathy for someone who had been followed and then unfollowed by their idol, but then I figured, eh, who cares, not me, and went back to playing Kim Kardashian Hollywood.

Add me as a friend on the iOS Game Center (I'm "realkfan") so we can be friends in the game and our characters can date. My character, a young starlet named Kloaca, went on a date the other night but I couldn't afford food and didn't have enough energy for kissing, and it was all incredibly real.

Important news and then we're done: I am reading with some very talented people this Thursday, July 17th, at 8 pm at the Aviary Gallery in Jamaica Plain/Boston/USA. Maura Johnston, Hannah Foell, Annie Kozakiewicz, Eric Frieden, and David Mogolov will also be there and it is going to be VERY FUN. I am going to read something new about incredibly sexual corporate mergers. See you there I HOPE. 

This is my first time sending out an email update since switching everything over to tinyletter and I have no idea how to format anything and I hope this works, I'm just going to close my eyes and send it, which is how I do everything online lately. I love you.
