Welcome to Wheelergram!

Hey you!

Welcome to my newsletter! I'm Andrew Wheeler, a writer specializing in queer genre fiction, and this is where I'll tell you about my upcoming comics projects and where I'll write about other important subjects like, "which Chris Hemsworth movie is the sexiest Chris Hemsworth movie?", and "why is Our Flag Means Death the only TV show that ever mattered?"

I had a bunch of announcements last week, so let me just catch you up real quick.

Stillwater: The Escape is in stores right now! It's a one-shot set in Stillwater, the town where no-one dies. Stillwater is a superb high concept horror series from Chip Zdarsky and Ramon Perez, and I was honoured to get to tell a short story in that setting. I teamed with the wonderful artist Soo Lee to tell a very personal story about a young Madonna fan struggling with the stillness of Stillwater. The one-shot also features moving tales from Jason Loo and Ethan Young. It's a great collection for Stillwater fans and newbs alike.

Love & War is my sports rom-com series with artists Killian Ng and Guillermo Saavedra, published digitally by Comixology Originals.

Love and War is set in Rosecastle, a city of poets and soldiers, romantics and revolutionaries, where two rival academies contend for the tug-of-war championship. This year, the Aster Academy team is determined to win against their rivals Kingdom College. The protagonist is Domo Novak, a heavy-set and shy boy who is named co-captain after the star of the team, Gabriel, unexpectedly quits. Domo will struggle to not only earn his spot under pressure from his rival and co-captain Jocasta, but also with his feelings for Gabriel and new recruit Emil.

The series launches April 12 and the print collection hits stores in September. You can pre-order the first issue and subscribe to the series here! You can pre-order the print collection here or from all good comic shops and bookstores! We love pre-orders!

My debut comic, Another Castle, returns to stores in a brand new bookstore edition from Oni Press the day after Love and War launches. April 13th!

Another Castle is a fantasy adventure comic about a princess who gets captured by an evil despot and decides she's not going to wait around to get saved. She's going to bring down the despot's wicked kingdom from inside his own castle — with the help of a friendly gorgon and a nervous gargoyle. The always fabulous Paulina Ganucheau created one of the most beautiful fantasy worlds you've ever seen for this story! And look at that new cover! Gorgeous!

"A feminist fantasy adventure that overturns genre conventions at every opportunity." — Publishers Weekly starred review.

Last year I made my DC print debut in the DC Pride anthology with an Aqualad story illustrated by Luciano Vecchio. That story is reprinted this year in a beautiful hardcover album.

This summer I make my Marvel debut in Marvel Voices: Pride, with an action-packed Hercules story illustrated by Brittney Williams. It's got punching, it's got smooching, it's got jokes, it's got Hercules' boyfriend...

Oh yes, it's not just a Hercules story.

June 15th, right in the middle of Pride month!

That's not my only book for Pride. We're ending the month in style — and celebrating 30 years of Image Comics — with the debut of the queerest book of them all...

Sins of the Black Flamingo is queer occult noir with an all-LGBTQ creative team — me, Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, and Aditya Bidikar. It's my first Image Comics creator-owned title!

Occult Noir. Miami Sleaze. Sebastian Harlow is the eponymous Black Flamingo, a flamboyant and narcissistic thief who gets his kicks stealing mystic artifacts from the wealthy and corrupt of Miami’s occult underground. When his latest job leads him to his biggest score so far, the hedonistic outlaw discovers something he wasn’t looking for — something to believe in.

"'Be Gay Do Crimes' as pure pop art." — Kieron Gillen, The Wicked + The Divine, Die

"Sebastian Harlow is the most exciting new character in years!" — Chip Zdarsky, Batman, Newburn

It's a beautiful book. Funny and smart, too, but come for the gorgeous art! Sins of the Black Flamingo debuts June 29th from Image Comics.

I know what you're thinking. "Andrew, are all these books... you know?"

Brilliant? Yes. All of them.
