What's on Tap RI: July 17–19
Mid-July finally handed us a weekend with a center of gravity: a few thousand people running a 5K and then drinking their way through Fort Adams. If that's not your speed, there are sea shanties in South Kingstown and a farm picnic in East Greenwich.
⭐ If you only pick one: Newport Beer Run — thirty-plus breweries inside a fort, and it only happens once a year.
Newport Beer Run — Newport
Best big beer day • Music ✓ • Food ✓ • Tickets
Sat: Newport Beer Run — 10th year, inside the walls of Fort Adams.
5K start — noon; gates 12:30, last call 3:50
Beer — 30+ breweries, all samples included
Music — Real Weird
Food — trucks selling on-site (bring cash)
Why go: It's the one day a year you can taste most of the state's beer without driving to any of it.
Tower Hill Brewing — South Kingstown
Best Friday night • Music ✓ • Event ✓
Fri: Sea Shanty Sing-A-Long — 6–9:30, with URI Marine Affairs students and faculty.
Donations go to the American Red Cross
Turn up dressed as a Gilligan's Island character and the first beer's free
Sat: Music — Pat Lowell, 6:45–9:45
Sun: Mah Jong, 6–8:45
Why go: A room full of people bellowing sea shanties is either exactly your thing or a story you'll tell for a year.
Moniker Brewery — Providence
Best day trip • Music ✓ • Food ✓
Sat: Summer picnic at Fry Farm — 2–7, and note it's in East Greenwich, not the West Side taproom.
Beer garden, live music, food, lawn games and flowers
Why go: Moniker's lagers, outdoors, on a historic farm — worth the twenty minutes south.
Ragged Island Brewing — Portsmouth
Best all-weekend food • Music ✓ • Food ✓
Fri: Music — The Naticks, 5:30–8:30 • Food — Brie & Honey, 2–8
Sat: Food — Little Fish, 1–8
Sun: Food — Teddi's, 1–7
Why go: No block party this week — that's back on the 26th — so it's the quiet version: a truck out front all three days and a band on Friday.
Trágmar Ale Works — Bristol
Best Sunday hang • Music ✓ • Food ✓
Sat: Music — Kyle Andree, 6–9
Sun: 6Pack Jeep Meet • Food — Hank's Down South BBQ
Why go: Sunday is Jeeps and barbecue in the lot of a World Beer Cup gold winner. Bristol does not make a habit of subtlety.
Worth keeping on the radar
Grey Sail, Westerly — music all three days: Cross Rhode Blues Friday 5–8, The Italics Saturday 4–7, Randy Robbins Sunday 2–5.
Newport Craft, Newport — a Seafood Crab Boil on Sunday, 2–6; Food Truck Friday with live music runs 5–9.
Coming up: the Ragged Island Pig Roast with Sea and Smoke Catering, Sunday August 2, 4–7. Tickets on sale soon.
