Updates and volunteer opportunities
The Wendy Olson Arboretum, Inc.
Howdy Neighbors,
I hope you all are enjoying the summer! Things have really started cooking since our last newsletter in May. The Hillsborough Garden Club event went great! We sold all our plants, and many of the birdhouses. Thanks to everyone who so generously used our new DONATE button.
Since June we have planted around 100 native pollinator plants and some lovely native ferns, all generously donated by Backyard Butterflies, our neighbors, and friends of the arboretum! It has been a lot of work planting and keeping them watered from the creek daily. The lion’s share of watering is undertaken in the morning by my dear husband and his lovely assistants, Babydoll and Tip.
Our dear neighbors have continued to pitch in removing by hand invasive plants, edging up the walking path with mowers and weed-eating, as well as leaf mulching and prepping a huge tree island which we will soon plant with under-story shrubs. It has also delighted us to see about 20 people a week strolling through the arboretum daily!
Looking forward we have just created a calendar of events for you to sign up for volunteer activities, events, and tours. So far we have times available the first two weeks of August. Please go here and sign up!
We also have an event lined up with Backyard Butterflies for an evening moth tour! Does that sound like fun? This will be limited to a small group and more on that to follow shortly.
We will kick off September with more clean up, invasive removal, fence building and mushroom tours! If you are interested let us hear from you and we will line it up.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Vanessa
