That's no dream home.
It’s 100-some degrees as I write this. The midwest is sucked into a “heat dome” and it’s stickier than I ever remember–I had to drive with the windshield wipers on to see because the air is so thick.
I spent Monday sick in bed, something between food poisoning and heat exhaustion knocking me down. I cannot recall the last time I took a true sick day from work but I did, and as you might imagine, that’ll be reflected in a very short link roundup this week. I took the time to recover.
My work this week:
Over on , I talked about the *seven* bomb threats Chicago area public libraries have received in the last month. There’s also an extensive roundup of book censorship news this week, with a note that public library stories are now almost as abundant as school library stories.
Texas GOP members are salivating over the passage of HB 900, and they’re compiling new lists of books they plan to demand be removed from school libraries this year. Here are the first 400–note their “review” sources.
Worth reading this week:
How HGTV’s “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge” Became a Neighborhood Nightmare. I could not stop reading this once I started.
The winding road at the top of Door County blew my mind the first time I saw it. It was early October and there were dozens of people standing in the middle of it taking photos–it’s that iconic. Here’s a story of how it was designed (interesting whether or not you know the road, since it’s about marrying nature with the man made).
I’m doing some work on a very concerning “solution” to book ban issues that I found this week and hopefully will be able to shed some light on the capitalist solutions to manufactured problems soon. In the mean time, stay well–and I’ll see you Sunday.
