In late summer I hit the road for two weeks to create a new image library of Mercury NZ’s wind farms. We shot all five fully operational sites from the black sands of Waipipi to the chilly hills of Gore. It felt like we were worshipping the sun, chasing sunrise and sunset each day with aerial and ground‑based shooting. The turbines themselves were equally mesmerising, set quietly in the rural corners of Aotearoa NZ.

Standing in a narrow gorge below the looming dam wall at Maraetai, you can't help but imagine the enormous body of water held behind the concrete structure, built in 1953. Prior to the wind farm project, I shot all thirteen of Mercury NZ's hydroelectric and geothermal stations. A rare and educational sort of project.

I had the pleasure of shooting the outside back cover of Here Magazine again recently. The objects are hand-painted to showcase different Resene colours and combinations. These shoots are always a rewarding blend of the technical and the conceptual - which suits my compulsion for order just fine.
