Weightshifting S2E18: Because the night belongs to us.
[Editor's note: This is a resend of the proper text that Jen edited. If you were curious about how much amazing work she does to whip my words into shape, please compare!]
Day 18: Sept 27, 2023
Belleville, IL
—
It’s our last full day. We extend our stay by two additional days due to my work obligations, so I need to be stationed somewhere. It’s also a good excuse to have extra family time.
I have a call with Simon Collison to discuss True Ventures design work and then a half-day Zoom meeting also for True. Before I hunker down, though, Jen and I swing by Knead one last time to get lunch provisions.
This is visit number three to Knead — we went on Saturday morning before the wedding, to meet with Jen’s friend of 41 years, Julie Eudy. We haven’t seen her in years, and she is always a warm embrace and wonderful person to converse with. She gives great, deep hugs.
Jen does initial prep for our imminent departure while I finish up work. Our meals throughout the week have been mostly comprised of Whole Foods hot bar and today is no exception. With our food in tow, we venture to Jen’s sister’s place for one final evening together. Jen’s mom is there as well, and it feels comfortable. Despite the new house, Kim and Kyle being newlyweds, and their kids blending, the scene seems long-established.
Reluctantly we start to part ways, lingering on a story or two to avoid the inevitable. We hug. The goodbyes are brief because we don’t want to say more. We exit into the night, feeling a touch of fall air after all the persistent summer heat. Our hearts are full, and we’re satiated.
