You could call this the New York issue of the Weekly Thing. For years I’ve told my kids that when they turn 13 I will take them on a trip, just Dad and them, to New York City to see the sights. Mazie is 13 so we boarded our flight to Newark on Friday and spent the weekend seeing NYC in all of it’s grandeur. 👨‍👧

It was so great to see the city through her eyes. She loved the experience of New York. For sure, School of Rock: The Musical was a big highlight for her. We saw the Statue of Liberty and also looked up my Great Grandfather Josef Gins in Ellis Island. It was amazing for my daughter to think of him at 15 years old, just two years older than her, immigrating to the United States all on his own. 😲

We had a fabulous time and we need to make this the first, not the last, of trips like this. ✈️

How Tesla Made the Model 3 So Safe

This article highlights some of the amazing safety aspects of the Tesla Model 3.

So basically, when Tesla says its Model 3 has the “lowest probability of injury” ever tested by NHTSA, it means that the overall VSS score (which represents the “relative risk of injury with respect to a baseline of 15 percent”) of 0.38 is lower than that of any car ever tested.

That’s impressive, any way you slice it.

At Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Salesforce, as well as at tech start-ups, engineers and technologists are increasingly asking whether the products they are working on are being used for surveillance in places like China or for military projects in the United States or elsewhere.

That’s a change from the past, when Silicon Valley workers typically developed products with little questioning about the social costs.

This is a good thing.

Just used the new iOS Shortcuts “Run JavaScript on Web Page” feature to automate a task that had no API endpoint before. It’s a very interesting capability. You can shove stuff in and out of the page and trigger other events while doing it. 🤔

Mazie and I hiked the length of the High Line in Manhattan today. We started on 30th street and walked south to the end. It was a delightful way to spend the morning, and a nearly perfect photo walk opportunity. It was a great place to exercise the iPhone XS camera.
