Accessible Load More Pattern | Nobody's Left Guessing

What do load more patterns and food trucks have in common? More than you’d think!

In WCAGMadeSimple’s first pattern piece, I do a deep dive into the load more pattern covering: announcements, keyboard focus, disabling controls, tracking results, and last but not least, error handling.

This is a longer read at about 30 minutes. That may seem daunting, so I've built in a few platform improvements to help pick up where you left off:

  • Table of contents

  • Linkable headings

  • Properly styled code blocks

Grab a bite beforehand so the food truck talk doesn’t make you hungry, then dive in and start learning:

Want to play around with a code example?

A working pattern has been built using web components and has been extensively tested with VoiceOver and Safari as shipped with macOS 26.3.1 (a).

Feel free to poke around and/or test it out with other screen readers like NVDA or JAWS:

Until next time fellow Code Jockeys, keep calm and keep coding on!
