Whole Lot of News

A bit of bad, but a little more good, so let’s jump right into it, right after you…

(From here on out, I’ll skip the preamble and just link you straight to my slightly revamped site, where you’ll find a bunch of purchase links.)

Putting the ‘no’ in ‘nominated’

The Ringo Award nominations are out and, while it’s an impressive list, Ben, myself, and Work-Life Balance sadly didn’t make the cut.

I’m disappointed, of course. It would’ve been an honour to be counted among those books and creators, especially since Mike Wieringo remains one of my favourites ever.

That said, I’m also not devastated. I’ll work on other comics in the future, there’ll be other chances—and, almost as if the universe was looking for a way to console me, a little while after finding out that we weren’t nominated, I visited a comic shop and bought a ton of Todd Dezago/Mike Wieringo/Richard Case Sensational Spider-Man comics from the mid-nineties.

Speaking of other comics…

Below the word balloon are the details of the launch, which read, line by line," BOOK LAUNCH. 20 September 2025, 7:30PM - 9PM. Alma House, 46 Kim Yam Rd, #03-03, Singapore 239351."

The How Are You Feeling? launch event is happening on 20 September at Alma House on Kim Yam Road.

Jannah, myself, and all the other creators who contributed to the anthology will be in attendance. Come and watch Jannah and me ham it up, while the rest of them conduct themselves with much more professionalism.

Register for the event here.

More new comics, you say?

An illustration of a group of people and a cat standing under the shelter of a bus stop, while it rains. The people are, from left to right a female student in a school uniform (white blouse and knee-high socks, green skirt and sneakers); a young man on his phone in an orange hoodie, light blue jeans and white sneakers, with a green sling bag hung over his left arm; and a professional looking man in a dark blue suit, orange tie, and brown shoes, with a brown sling back over his right arm, holding the handle of a medium-sized wheeled suitcase. Next to him is an orange cat splashing a puddle. Above this scene are the words, "DELAY: A COMICS ANTHOLOGY" and below this scene are the words, "Edited by Charis Loke & Paolo Chikiamco."

You can now also pre-order DELAY, a comics anthology that features “Time For That Later”, a new story by myself, Nadia (yes, the missus), and Abs Goh, better known among the punk scene kids here as my lovably weird non-binary child (somehow, I am not joking).

“Time For That Later” looks at how time behaves differently when you’re a caregiver. It was very directly inspired by both Nadia and Abs’s experiences as primary caregivers, and uses panel sizes and layouts to show that malleability of time.

We’re all very proud of it—and Nadia and I are particularly proud of what an amazing job Abs has done as its visual storyteller. You can pre-order it directly from our publisher or through Wormhole, which offers free shipping within Singapore.

Predatory behaviour

The last bit of good news doesn’t actually have anything to do with me, but with my pal, Elvin Ching. Elvin’s a creator who, thus far, is best known for the highly underrated, but seriously excellent graphic novel, The Woodsman—a book that, if you don’t already own, you should get right now.

Elvin’s an amazing visual storyteller—and a genuinely kind and sweet dude—so it was such a joy to find out that he’s working with Ethan Sacks and Marvel Comics on the prequel comic to Predator: Badlands.

I encourage you to pick this up from your local comic shop. Simply walk in, show them this link, and tell them that you’d like to pre-order the comic. Pre-ordering greatly helps sales because it lets a shop know how many copies of a comic to bring in.

Singapore doesn’t provide much support for its creators. Any time one of us does work on an international stage, it’s probably largely thanks to hard work. If there are two things that I think should be rewarded, it’s a dedication to your craft and being a good person. Elvin embodies both of those. So, once again: pre-order Predator: Badlands now—and hopefully this won’t be the last time we see Elvin’s name on a globally known property.

That’s it for now

Once again, head over to my website to support my work—and I’ll see you next time.
