Forever on Our Mind: Taking a Summer Break
Taking a summer break to rest, recharge, watch too many A24 films, and play too much Mario Kart World
See you soon!
July 2025:
Hi, friends! I wanted to let you know that I’m taking a short summer break to travel a bit, recharge my batteries, and spend some time outdoors—at least until the temperature hits 73ºF, at which point I’ll return to my couch, turn on the A/C, and watch A24 movies or play Mario Kart World until I fall asleep.
That means you won’t receive another newsletter for a few weeks. I’m not sure when I’ll send the next essay out, but I’d wager that you’ll hear from me again at some point in August.
I’m working on a few pieces that I’m especially excited about—like a triumphant wine-tasting experience with my buddy Kellen and my paean to Portland rain—but none of what’s cooking is ready to serve quite yet. So rather than burn the midnight oil, stress about each week’s deadline, and send out essays that I’m not super happy with … I’d like to prioritize my mental health and not push myself every hour of every day. A little leisure time every now and again is actually pretty nice! Besides, all those A24 movies won’t watch themselves!
If you’re a monthly supporter and would like to pause or cancel your membership until my return, feel free to do so at Buy Me a Coffee—or let me know so I can take care of that on my end. I totally understand that you are supporting my creative endeavors, not funding my AAA24 membership or Mario Kart addiction, and I will be happy to work with whatever sounds good to you.
In the meantime, stay hydrated—and wear sunscreen!
Thanks,
Matt
