Forever on Our Mind: Taking a Holiday Break
Taking a little time off—and regrouping ahead of 2026
See you soon!
Hey, friends!
I hate to do this so soon after getting back from my extended summer break, but I’m taking the rest of 2025 off to travel and enjoy the holidays.
I promise this won’t be as long as my summer break—and that I’ll be back in your inbox on January 5, 2026. It’s just been a busy week, and that elusive balance I described in my return from summer break … well, it remains elusive.
Most weeks, I get to Sunday and scramble to write, edit, polish, and prepare an essay before each Monday’s email. I keep telling myself I’ll find more time, and then I keep not finding more time. Early 2026 looks pretty low-key and conducive to essay writing at this point, but I know better than to assume it’ll stay that way.
So when this returns in 2026, it will be on a monthly, not a weekly, schedule. I’ll share an essay the first Monday of each month and leave it at that for now. I reserve the right to bump up the cadence or send the occasional “bonus” piece as my schedule allows, but I don’t feel comfortable committing to more than one essay per month for the time being.
I’m sorry I can’t live up to the weekly cadence; I’m stretched pretty thin and would rather take time to produce something I’m proud of.
If you’re a supporter through Buy Me a Coffee and would like to cancel over the reduction in frequency, I totally understand—and there will be no hard feelings. You can cancel through the Buy Me a Coffee website or by letting me know—and I’ll tackle that on the backend.
Until then, have a happy holiday season with your friends and family! Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you! Wear sweatpants! Watch the new “Knives Out” movie in theaters or on Netflix! Eat a few Reese’s trees—and then a few more!
Thanks for rocking with me!
See you in 2026,
Matt
