MW4's DMZ Trailer Sends You Into Hajin to Hunt WMDs, and Shooting First Makes You a Target

Activision released the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Worldbuilder trailer on October 4, the first big look at Call of Duty's returning extraction mode. Squads enter Hajin, a radioactive exclusion zone where South Korea, North Korea, and Russia meet, to stop North Korean forces grabbing chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Kill other players unprovoked and you earn a Rogue reputation; push it and you become Wanted, letting rivals buy intel on your location. MW4 launches October 23.

Player impact: Third-partying in DMZ now has a price, so solo rats and squad wipers need to decide whether the loot is worth a bounty on their head. ARC Raiders and Tarkov players should watch this one closely.

Gray Zone Warfare 0.5 Lets One Splint Fix a Whole Leg and Teaches AI to Throw Grenades

MADFINGER Games posted the first Rogue Ops devlog on October 4. Update 0.5 heals by body part, so one splint fixes every break in a leg, caps bleed speed, and measures medical items by volume. All AI can bandage themselves, some factions throw grenades, and Tier 3 and new Tier 4 zones get harder. The largest Combat Outposts (PvP capture points) stop being capturable, and you can run multiple characters with separate PvE and PvEvP progress. Supporter Preview starts October 19, full release October 22.

Player impact: Less menu surgery after a firefight, but tougher AI means cheap PvE loot runs get riskier. PvEvP players lose their favourite outpost brawls, so expect fights to spread across Lamang.

WARDOGS Clears $100 Million on Steam in Under a Month, Still Behind ARC Raiders and Helldivers 2

Alinea Analytics says BULKHEAD's WARDOGS made $86.9 million on Steam between its September 10 early access launch and the end of the month, passing $100 million gross with pre-orders and 3.2 million copies sold. It still trails ARC Raiders ($125 million) and Helldivers 2 ($130 million) over a similar window. Analyst Rhys Elliott says the shooter still pulls about 250,000 players a day. GamesRadar reported the figures on October 2.

Player impact: A quarter of a million daily players means fast queues and a studio with money to fix cheating and balance before Season 2. If you bounced off the launch, the population is still there.

Dead by Daylight Studio Behaviour Is Hiring for an Unannounced AAA Sci-Fi FPS

Behaviour Interactive, the Montreal studio behind Dead by Daylight, is hiring a Senior Technical Animator for "a AAA sci-fi FPS in Unreal Engine with a high realism bar," Insider Gaming reported on October 4 from a public job listing. The role covers rigs for bipedal and non-bipedal characters, including mechanical setups. Behaviour has not announced the game, and no platforms or dates are known.

Player impact: This is an early signal, not a reveal. A horror studio moving into realistic sci-fi FPS means another big shooter could compete for your squad's time within a few years.

Gears of War: E-Day Doubles Gears 5's Steam Peak Before It Even Hits Game Pass on October 6

The standard edition and the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass versions arrive on October 6, Pure Xbox confirmed on October 4.

Player impact: If you skipped the premium edition, Game Pass gets you in on October 6, and Series S owners are not stuck with a cut-down version. Expect busy servers and a crowded week for creators.

Thrustmaster's $750 TGT III Wheel Brings Gear-Shift Haptics to Gran Turismo 7

Steam Had Its Best September Ever and Is on Pace for $20 Billion in 2026

Alinea Analytics estimates Steam made $1.6 billion in September, its best September on record and up 13% on 2025, with $5.5 billion for the quarter and $16.5 billion so far this year. Analyst Rhys Elliott expects Steam to pass $20 billion for the first time in 2026, helped by The Witcher 3 Remastered, WARDOGS, and a crowded October slate. GamesRadar reported the numbers on October 2. These are analyst estimates; Valve does not publish revenue.

Player impact: More money on Steam means more publishers chasing PC-first launches, but it also gives Valve less reason to change its 30% cut. Watch for more day-one Steam releases from console-first studios.

Capcom Wants RE Engine to Become an AI Game Engine That Writes Code and Tests Its Own Builds

At its Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 on October 2, programmer Satoshi Ishida said Capcom plans to evolve RE Engine, used in nearly 30 games since Resident Evil 7, into an "AI game engine" under its REX initiative. AI would generate code and run automated test plays to find bugs. Capcom also plans to release some tech publicly for AI training. VGC reported the talk on October 3.

Player impact: Faster builds and automated bug hunts could mean quicker patches for Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, but expect a loud argument over how much AI ends up in the games themselves.
