Crytek's bounty-hunting PvPvE shooter (players versus players and AI monsters) relaunched today, August 15, as Hunt: Showdown 1896 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. The update moves the game to CryEngine 5.11 with rebuilt visuals and audio, and adds Mammon's Gulch, a Colorado mountain map with 16 compounds. Crytek shut off the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions the same day. Existing owners get the upgrade free.

Player impact: If you play on PS4 or Xbox One, your Hunt access is gone today, so weigh a new console or moving on. Everyone else gets a fresh biome and a full visual overhaul to relearn.

Gray Zone Warfare Ships Back-to-Back Patches to Fix Its Brutal New-Player Start

Madfinger Games pushed two patches, 0.4.6.0 and 0.4.7.0, to its tactical extraction shooter Gray Zone Warfare on August 13. Both target the rough first hours for new players with tutorial tooltips, revised starting gear, and a stack of community-reported bug fixes. The studio is holding its bigger 0.5 update, which adds smarter enemy AI archetypes like flanking scouts and LMG (light machine gun) suppression teams, for later this year.

Player impact: If you bounced off Gray Zone Warfare because the opening hours were confusing, this is the patch that tries to fix onboarding. The meatier enemy AI overhaul is still months out.

Modern Warfare 4's Beta and Call of Duty NEXT Both Land August 21

Activision confirmed the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta schedule. Early access for pre-orders runs August 21 to 25, and the open beta for everyone runs August 28 to September 1. Call of Duty NEXT, the multiplayer reveal show, airs August 21. The second weekend adds Warzone, a new Warzone map, and Ground War. It plays on PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Full launch is October 23.

Player impact: If you want a head start, pre-ordering buys the August 21 early access week. Everyone else waits until August 28, when Warzone joins the test.

The same day, a free 2.0 update moves the base game to Unreal Engine 5.5.4 for every owner.

Team Jade's free-to-play shooter Delta Force lands on PS5 and Xbox Series on August 19, after building its base on PC and mobile. Console players get the co-op Black Hawk Down campaign, based on the 2001 war film, on day one, plus the Warfare mode and the extraction-style Operations mode. The game runs a live-service season model, so console arrivals join mid-season rather than at a clean start.

Player impact: If you skipped Delta Force because it stayed on PC and mobile, August 19 is your entry point, and it costs nothing to try. Squads can drop straight into the Black Hawk Down co-op.

DDR5 Memory Prices Have Roughly Tripled in a Year, and Gaming PCs Are Paying for AI

Memory prices kept climbing through August 2026. A 32GB DDR5 kit that cost roughly 100 to 200 dollars a year ago now starts near 350 to 400 dollars when in stock, an increase of up to 89% across 2026. The cause is AI: Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are shifting factory capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI data centers. Reports say those makers have already sold out their 2027 production, so relief is not close.

Player impact: If you are building or upgrading a gaming PC, RAM is now one of the priciest parts of the build. Buy only the capacity you need, or hold off, since prices are only just starting to cool.
