Hey, folks! It is I, Andrew Neal, creator of Meeting Comics. The way social media keeps changing and different platforms rise and fall, it’s clear that I need to make an effort to maintain a place to talk about what’s going on with my comics that isn’t tied to any social media site. To that end, I’m restarting my email newsletter.
This newsletter is through a different service, but I have imported the list from my old newsletter. If you’re no longer interested, feel free to unsubscribe.
I haven’t sent out any kind of newsletter in a long time, so I’m going to load this one up as a kind of megadigest! Future editions of this newsletter should be more succinct.
The comic I’m currently working on is called NO RACCOONS IN HELL. It is the third Val Cannon Mystery, and it takes place in 1997. This story is going to be split into two issues which will be 32 pages each. At least that’s the plan at this point. I’m currently drawing page 24 of the first of those two issues.
Here’s the cover and the first two pages:
In this comic, Val and her roommates wake up the day after a crazy party and discover that their pet raccoon, Ranger Rick, is missing.
I’m serializing NO RACCOONS IN HELL at my patreon as I finish pages. It’s a dollar a month to join. I’ll be running a kickstarter for the print edition once I get a few more pages done, and then I’ll have it at my webstore and at comic shows.
Here’s my patreon if you are interested in joining, and here’s a link to just the NO RACCOONS IN HELL posts. The first eight pages are free to read, and there’s lots of commentary and process talk there.
Last year I started up a publishing company called ADDED VALUE BOOKS and self-published a second collection of Meeting Comics, called CLOCKING IN AND SELLING OUT.
This book collects Meeting Comics #7-12 and a minicomic spinoff entitled 320 Shades of Greg: A Meeting Comics Erotic Thriller. There's an introduction written by Heathcliff cartoonist Peter Gallagher!
If you’re interested in grabbing a copy of CLOCKING IN AND SELLING OUT and/or my first book, MEETING COMICS, there are available at my webstore.
Once I’m finished with the first issue of NO RACCOONS IN HELL, my next project will be putting together mt third book. It’s going to be called TINA AND ELLIE TAKE THE CASE, and will collect issues #13-19.
Here’s the cover so far. I think Tina and Ellie are done, but the background has too many busy details,so I will probably rework that:
This run of issues is where Meeting Comics really became MEETING COMICS for me. Issue #13 saw the introduction of Tori, the beginning of Tina and Ellie’s detective work, and the real time onset of COVID, and all those things changed the series significantly for me!
There will be a kickstarter for this book later in the year, and after that I’ll have it available through my webstore and at comic and zine shows.
I have updated my webstore with a ton of sticker designs! Some are returning, some are new, some are not new but have never been offered online.
These are all available at my webstore, and I will have them at any show I do as well.
I did enough shows over the last couple years that I burned myself out on travel, so for this year, while I did NOICE in Norfolk in February, I’m only planning on doing events within an hour of my house going forward, which is to say, pretty much anywhere between Greensboro and Raleigh, NC.
Even though I enjoy them both, I did not apply for CXC and turned down the table I was offered for SPX. I might change my mind on travel this year if a cool opportunity presents itself, but in the meantime, the only event I have confirmed is:
Chboro Zine Fest, Carrboro, NC. April 27th, 11AM-4PM
Put it on the calendar if you’re local to the Triangle area in NC!
I think that’s enough to put on you for now. I will do my best of continue this newsletter on a regular basis!
Thanks for reading!
Andrew Neal
