Walkspace Newsletter for October ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธโปŒ

Hello walkers!

Here’s what’s been happening, and is happening, in the walking world of Walkspace as of October 2020.

Upcoming Events

Events are back! Subject to Covid regulations, of course.

Randonautica Walkshop Sat 10th Oct
Andy is teaming up with performance artist Sebastian H-W to run a series of quantum generated random walks, exploring “the psychogeography of quantum mysticism, magical intentionality, and simulation theory”. Details here.

Walking In The Rea October
During October, Megan will be undertaking a series of walks in the middle of the River Rea. Wearing waders she’ll follow it from the source to its confluence with the Tame. While a solo walk, you may spot her from the banks. Details here.

On the Walkspace blog

We had two guest posts this month and one interview. If you’d like to do either of these, please get in touch!

  • Q&A with durational walker Paul Taylor details how a man starts walking for fitness and just doesn’t stop.
  • Walking Mindfully is by Laura Babb on how to use walking to deal with the general state of things that is 2020.
  • Stirchley Soundwalk introduces Nikki Sheth’s guided walk around the sounds of Stirchley for the Ten Acres of Sound festival, which you can follow using the locally produced SOUNDwalker app.

Extreme Noticing got noticed

So Pete, Fiona and Andy presented our video Extreme Noticing Under Lockdown at the 4th World Congress of Psychogeography and got some really nice feedback from all involved. If you haven’t watched it yet, it tells the story of the Mapping Stirchley and how we built back Walkspace and our walking practices after lockdown.

We were particularly pleased with the Q&A panel we did with Phil Wood who really helped us dig into what we’d done and where we’re coming from. Recommended if you’re interested in why we’re doing all this.

That’s all for now

Thanks for your interest. Do let us know if you’d like to get involved with Walkspace, whether it’s contributing to the blog or collaborating on a project. We’re still figuring out exactly what Walkspace is for, so why not help us do that!

best,

The Walkspace team
