Walkspace is constituted! AGM recording and minutes

Hello Walkspace members!

On Sunday we had our Annual General Meeting at which it was agreed to adopt the constitution which will see Walkspace become an Unincorporated Co-operative (See below for video recording of the meeting). The co-operative model emphasises member ownership and democratic control. The unincorporated bit means that we haven’t become a registered company or charity and so haven’t committed to a drastic change in direction. It does commit us to having at least two general meetings per year in addition to the AGM so that members can have their say and stay informed. These meetings will be conducted online and will also serve as salons for members to share their artwork/interests and give and receive feedback.

Adopting the constitution means that we can now open a bank account. Opening a bank account means that we can collect annual membership subscriptions to pay for our basic costs and also go for more commissions and funding opportunities. We agreed to set the annual subscription rate at a minimum of £10. We’ll be in touch again about this once the bank account is set up.

We also elected four committee members:

  • Chair - Dan Carins

  • Treasurer - Charlie Best

  • Walks Facilitator- Andy Howlett

  • Salons/Socials Facilitator - Rachel Henaghan

The committee members will keep their positions until the next AGM or until they resign from the committee. The position of Secretary remains open and so the responsibilities of that role will be shared by the committee members until the position is filled. The main tasks of the secretary are minute-taking and communicating the dates/times of meetings. If you are interested in taking on this role or if you’d like some more information please reply to this email by October 20th.

If you missed the AGM you can watch the recording of it below. Attached to this email you’ll also find the signed Constitution and the meeting minutes. The “Year in Review” presentation can be viewed here.

We’re very excited to be embarking upon this next phase in the Walkspace journey. We’ve already had members expressing interest in presenting at salons and leading walks and we hope the next year will see an increase in opportunities for members to get involved (there’s even been talk of a potential Walkspace festival!). If you have an idea for something you’d like to contribute or organise, however big or small please get in touch!

Happy Walking,

Andy, Rachel, Dan, Charlie - the Walkspace Committee
