Walkspace events for Parallel Walking

Hello Walkers!

This is the newsletter of Walkspace, the art-walking collective for the West Midlands.

Thanks very much to all those who came to the Parallel Walking exhibition launch and Fiona’s tour of Stirchley’s back alleys last Saturday. It was a blast! The exhibition can be experienced until 19th February: Thursdays (6-11pm), Fridays and Saturdays (12-11pm) at Artefact, Stirchley. Come down and nongkrong!

EVENTS

This Saturday 12th sees the launch of the Parallel Walking zine which features contributions from all the artists. The launch will take place on Zoom at 10am GMT and it will be a chance to hear from all the artists about their experiences of walking and working in parallel. The zine will be available both digitally online and in physical form from Artefact. Register here: https://ti.to/walkspace/parallel-walking

On Thursday 17th we’ll be back at Artefact for the first ever Walkspace film night. A number of our members have worked with moving image and this selection of short films will showcase the diverse range of interests and practices within our group. 7pm, tickets on the door, pay what you can, £3/£5/£7/£9

And finally… on Saturday 19th at 12 noon, Andy Howlett will be running an experimental group walk in Birmingham City Centre in search of Pedestrian Portals. If you’d like to join then meet at Lancaster Circus underneath the flyover (map) at midday. The walk will last around 90 minutes and the route will be determined collectively and on-the-fly. As the route is unknown we can’t know for sure what the terrain will be like but we shall do all we can to accommodate the mobility requirements of everyone present.

All the best,

Andy, Fiona and Pete: The Walkspace Committee.
