Return of the Salons! 10 December, Josh Allen and Emily Wilkinson
Hello Walkspace members!
Those of you who have been with us a long time may remember the online Salons we used to run for Walkspace members. These were an opportunity for members to get together and share a bit about their practice and generate some discussion. They’re a great way to put names to faces and get a sense of the interesting things other members are up to. We’re excited to say that after a long hiatus the Salons are back! The first one will be on Tuesday December 10th at 7pm. See below for your Zoom invite.
For this Salon we have two speakers from the membership who will be sharing an aspect of their walking practice:
Emily Wilkinson - Desire Lines: Walking Arts and Therapeutic Landscapes. Emily is a creative practitioner and researcher working in writing, walking, visual art, movement, digital media and healing arts. In this Salon Emily will introduce her current PhD research followed by a creative activity. Bring pens, paper, art materials or whatever you like to draw/write with.
Josh Allen - Walking the West Midlands County. Over the last year Josh Allen has been writing a book provisionally titled: 'Down the Snicket and Straight Up the Cut: A Walk Across West Midlands County". In it Josh reflects upon a 35 mile walk he undertook across one of England's smallest but most populous counties in the year that marked the 50th anniversary of its establishment. Josh will read an extract from the first chapter "Underneath the Pavement a Stream" about the ancient city of Coventry.
The Salons will also serve as a forum for discussion of general Walkspace matters, a place for announcements, a place to suggest ideas and sometimes a place to make decisions as a collective. In this way the Salons will function as general meetings which are a key part of how a cooperative operates. Ahead of this Salon we ask you to think about what you’d like to see Walkspace do in 2025.
