The Stuttering Lede, Oct. 15th, 2024

22 days until we know if we can stop fascism...

“Totalitarian propaganda can outrageously insult common sense only where common sense has lost its validity.” Hannah Arendt

Elections 2024

  • Our problem in the nutshell: failure of education and media means that 20% of Gen Zers believe that Hitler had some good ideas.

  • Swastika Flags Flown During Donald Trump Boat Parade in Florida If you're in a parade with people flying Nazi flags, you might be part of a Nazi movement.

  • AP take: Trump’s Pennsylvania town hall turns into impromptu concert after medical incidents. Reality: Trump appears lost, confused, and frozen on stage as multiple songs play for 30+ minutes and the crowd pours out of the venue early. If any other candidate for any political office behaved like this, his own party would be screaming for him to step down.

  • Unbelievable sanewashing of a fascist. The headline. The photo greeting troops. When he actually said: "We have some sick people, radical left lunatics ... and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military."

  • More sanewashing from the actual NY Times:

  • This is what Mr. Trump posts at 1am:

  • Donald Trump abruptly canceled his planned Friday interview on CNBC.

  • The American economy has left other rich countries in the dust.

  • The Democrats Are the Only True Defenders of the Constitution.

  • Sen. JD Vance claimed on national television that Donald Trump "didn't go after his political opponents" during the four years of his presidency. Fact check: we were alive during those four years.
