A Note from 2018
Author’s Note: The following is my post on Facebook from 2018. I wanted to preserve it, even after deleting my account, as a receipt, that I predicted the sovietization of the US that we are seeing now.

Brace yourself, a serious political post..
For the past year, perhaps longer, I've been alluding and at times openly stating that we are gradually sliding into a Soviet style authoritarian regime. There were parallels and fairly unpleasant reminders of my childhood. Yet, I consistently believed that I'm simply being paranoid, that I'm overreacting. I've consistently stated that while the caricature in the White House is trying to build a Brezhnev regime with a racist flavor, we have a strong Constitutional system and that the Judicial branch will hold and save us from the nightmare that Trump wittingly or unwittingly trying to develop. For the most part, I was correct, God bless the lawyers and especially the Judges. I would have never imagined myself writing the previous sentence.
Yet, they have held up the republic for us for two years.
Alas, I no longer believe that the Judicial can save us. Nothing really can save us anymore. We are no longer sliding into a Soviet autocracy. We are already there. It's not the vague parallels and personal memories anymore. We are left with a government solely lacking a single responsible adult with a sense of duty and patriotism and care for either country or rule of law or Constitution. We are left with a menagerie of corrupt, ignorant, narcissistic, racist buffoons who are utterly incompetent to add insult to injury.
It is our reality now.
Just replace the symbols, change the propaganda slogans and....
