Sprezzatura #10 - These Are My Confessions
Phew! Super Bowl was quite the nail-biter! Congrats or condolences to all those who felt strongly about it. I found the commercials diverting, Usher did a fine job with the halftime show, and we ate great food. So my Super Bowl was a blast, thanks for asking.
A few weeks ago, I was a guest in the Ottawa improv show, "Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience", based on '90s American family sitcoms. Amazing cast and crew + amazing production = I had an amazing time. If you ever get the chance, go check them out. The intro video and theme song alone is worth the price of admission.
VIDEO: Baby Racing
As far as sports go, you can bin the Super Bowl, this should absolutely be an Olympic sport.
TV: Love on the Spectrum
Honestly, this is one of the best shows going. It follows people on the autism spectrum and their efforts to date and find love. Start with the source series out of Australia then move to the US series. The second US season just came out and it's one of the most emotionally charged things I've watched in a long time. From crying tears of laughter to being overwhelmed by the unfettered humanity of these people, I'm beautifully exhausted after each episode.
MUSIC: Greedy by Tate McRae
I'm old. Canadian popstar Tate McRae is on her second album, was the musical guest on SNL last November, and is currently on a world tour. Never heard of her until this past week.
Her song Greedy is a bonbon, a sweet confection for the ears. It's a head-bopping, toe-tapping treat; a bauble, a charm, a shiny trinket for the musical crow.
IMPROV TIP
Got a big confession in a scene? Move right to the front of the stage, face the audience, pause, and confess to the audience. Then, take a breath, turn, and look into the eyes of your scene partner to reconnect with them and watch their reaction.
There's something powerful about connecting with the audience in that moment. Of course, you can tell that confession directly to your scene partner while facing them. But there's something equally potent about sharing that with "the other people in the room", your audience.

New class: Deep Dive Into La Ronde with Kirsten Rasmussen
Kirsten is one of Canada's treasures as a performer, director, and teacher. If you met her at Camp Zipzap, you already knew that. Now she's teaching a new online class about the La Ronde, a pretty popular improv format that focuses on characters. Space is limited so jump in there while ya can. As of this writing, there's still an equity spot left! Starts Saturday March 9.
Vinny in England
I don't have the details to share just yet but I'll be visiting the UK in March to teach a bunch of classes. Maybe keep March 16-17 and 23-24 open? Perhaps a train ticket into London would not be amiss?
