320 - life update πŸ€„πŸ€£πŸ›’οΈ

psa: pt is free in victoria until apr 30 :)

Hey there, !

  1. One month in, 2 - 5 months left to get my celebrancy license. Time is fast, but time is slow. There's nothing to do but ride it out. I'm looking to try and get some fancy books for my practice so that it looks #professional. WEW - more toys and money to spend. Any thoughts on colours/fonts that would work well for my stationery? I'm thinking either red 2000 or 2001 or maybe the green 2034. Fonts...perhaps the Cheltenham 48, or maybe do a bit of a Alt Gothic vibe?

  2. I was playing mahjong the other day and got absolutely rocked by discarding for someone else to win with THIRTEEN ORPHANS, TWICE. TWICE!!! Even just hitting it once is a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list mahjong thing, but to hit it twice in one session? THE LUCK. Absolutely stitched up.

  3. I went to the Comedy Gala for the first time ever - I've been watching it on tv for YEARS and it was the first time I was actually early enough to get tickets. The in person experience is lovely, and it has its ups and downs, but it was stellar. Emma Holland, Dan Rath, and Ivan Aristeguieta were some standouts for me - they just did something different, absurd and edgy, which I loved. Matt Okine is back, one of my OG favourites. Unfortunately, Denise Scott who hosted fucked up a few of the ethnic last names which soured my mood a bit but whatever.

  4. Finally finished Pandemic Legacy Season 0, and let me tell you - if you want to find an ongoing boardgame with 4 people that can tell a story just as well as a movie, you should look no further than Pandemic Legacy Season 1, Pandemic Legacy Season 2, and Pandemic Legacy Season 0. Some absolutely FANTASTIC storytelling and pacing, reveals, new things to open, absolutely AMAZING moments of clutch calculations; just super super fun. Perhaps it's your time to BOARDGAMEMAXX.

  5. I bought a 4K/Bluray player because I wanted to watch a box set of Breaking Bad that Steph left behind, and I quickly snapped up some cheap 4k movies on Facebook Marketplace. I'm finding it fun to dip into hobbies just like...a little bit. I don't have to collect literally everything in the world, but just having my favourite movies (like the Godfather 1 and 2) on 4K is pretty special to me. Like I've said before, there's a little bit more connection you have with physical media since you have a much more limited collection. Don't love the interface for DVD's though (choosing scenes etc.) - would much prefer just a VLC kind of player hahaha.

  6. I have a sinking feeling that as the war continues in Iran, oil prices will be inflated all around the world, which will lead to higher grocery costs, less car travel (less seeing friends?), and flights being cancelled. Perhaps we take it for granted that travel is so easy. Perhaps they'll make us stay home to conserve fuel for the trucks and farmers. Perhaps a butterfly will flap its wings 10 years ago and save us from yet another once-in-a-lifetime downturn. Anyway here's a nice picture of the world near me.

βœ”οΈReal Life Recommendations

  1. Tip to Tip China - two streamers (Ludwig and Michael Reeves) are traveling from the south of China to the north of China with no maps, no translators and no highways. At the time of writing they've uploaded like 6 episodes or something, and it is RIVETING to see the adventure! It's just them with broken Chinese trying to find hotels, trying to order things to eat, trying to make sure they're still headed North - it's a fun series. Thank you Soon Li for the recommend :D

  2. Exit 8 - 3 stars - it's not perfect, but I really liked the premise. A guy gets stuck in a Japanese railway station hallway that seems to loop over and over again (an eternal liminal space?), and has to find 'anomalies' to escape. I think it's a fun little thriller/horror watch, albeit a bit cryptic in terms of plot. Slow at times, but it's only 95 minutes so it's pretty short!

🚌 Adventures on the Information Super-Highway

  1. My Astrophotography in Project Hail Mary - it's so BEAUTIFUL. When I have the money I want to print and frame something like this to hang on my wall.

  2. list animals until failure - thanks Tina for the rec. My highest score so far is 126; it's harder than I thought it would be!!

  3. A Review of Dice that came with The White Castle - extreme nerd shit; somebody went and analysed whether the dice in a game was fair using a number of tests. Fantastic stuff - this is what the internet was made for.
