314 - did you miss me πŸŽ΅πŸ§§πŸŽ‰

i'm back - potentially interesting things are returning to your inbox

Hey there, !

I missed me. And you too, . But it's been a long and restful break from the newsletter and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.

No backlog, no ideas, head empty, but letting the waves of inspiration wash through the brain and out through the fingers into your inboxes.

I'll do a more comprehensive life update next week, but I hope you've been well! How was your Christmas? New Years? Australia Day? Lunar New Year???

HOW'S YOUR ZODIAC?

In other news we've finally got to the next digit of PI for the newsletter - it's weird to think that my 31st newsletter was about The Longest Song In The World and I'm out here thinking about how I'm ever going to get to my 3,141st newsletter. That'll take another, what, 57 years of posting?

Hopefully I'll still have things to write about by then. Maybe it'll all be nostalgia bait by then, or AI just writing posts infinitely based on my backlog. Or maybe we'll all have uploaded our consciousness' to the Singularity and become a hivemind.

Or maybe we'll just see the collapse of late stage capitalism and all the oceans have risen and the world gets really hot and money doesn't matter and the main currency in the world is books because knowledge is power.

Or something like that.

The future has so much potential, and yet we live in such a sliver of the whole human race's timeline...kind of like trying to listen to the longest song in the world!

Anyway, enjoy the week, celebrate the Lunar New Year if that's what's up in your world, and gear up for another year of Potentially Interesting posts!!

  1. Marty Supreme - 4.5 stars - it's so good but I don't like Kevin O'Leary who pretty much plays himself as a sleazy af businessman and has a weird last line in the movie that makes me think he paid someone so he could make money on Polymarket. The movie is a banger of tension and anxiety (same director as Uncut Gems), but also reminded me of Whiplash as a story about the pursuit of greatness. Lots of meta layers about Timothee Chalamet himself, but damn - very well deserving of the accolades during this Oscar season. I'm gonna try and get through all the Oscar movies ASAP. But this one's a good one!!

  2. Pluribus - genuinely set my imagination on fire watching this season of TV. I absolutely loved the amount of deep exploration into a concept this got into, and how genuine the reactions to something like this would be. We're getting into Severance land unfortunately in terms of having to wait YEARS between seasons but it was just so damn good. Go watch it!

  1. The Singularity will occur on a Tuesday - what a SENTENCE. I imagine it being played by a rock band called 'Down with the Machines' while protesting the clankers taking over. TBH it's just a funny breakdown of arXiV papers but we love data analysis here.

  2. I'm Kenyan. I don't write like ChatGPT. ChatGPT writes like me. - how can you stop sounding like chatGPT when you were taught the exact way it sounds!?

  3. okstupid.lol - On December 27th, 2025, a hacker by the name of 'Martha Root' took to the stage in a full Pink Power Ranger outfit, hacked into a white supremacy dating app called WhiteDate live, scraped all the data, deleted the server and backups, and posted ALL OF THE DATA ON THIS WEBSITE. It's 85% dudes (what a crappy ratio) who have profiles that are cringe as fuck - have fun laughing at 'em here.
