This year I'm trying to make these a bit shorter and snappier as I've found them a bit long in the last few years (editor's note: he failed). Our feng shui master Lee Kui Ming can waffle on a bit to justify the cost of his book HAHA. Therefore, if you want more detail for your zodiac (specifically if you want notes for particular birth years), just reply to this email and I'll see if I can translate some more stuff for you!

The Glossary

As usual, a few glossary terms:

1. A ‘name year‘ is usually a year of change - and often that is seen as a 'bad' thing. However, most of the advice that you'll get is more about how you can take control of that change; so don't worry if it's a name year, it might not all be bad! Also, there are different types of name years which have slightly different impacts - the direct name year, the harming name year, the oppositional name year, the breaking name year and the punishing name year. Usually this occurs when you're at the 12 / 3 / 6 / 9 o'clock positions as it pertains to the animal of the year (e.g. Rat is at 6 o'clock when compared to Horse so it's in opposition) but sometimes your lucky stars can combat this energy.

2. Any time I mention a ‘sponsor‘ it means that there’s someone who will appear in your life as a benefactor of some sort. It doesn’t mean they’re literally rich or will give you money, it means they’ll be valuable to your life. They are used as support for different parts of your life, so where and when they appear is important to understand.

3. A ‘crisis‘ of any type means that there could be an incident relating to that particular thing. So for example, a ‘blood crisis’ means you’ll have an incident relating to blood, or a 'blade crisis' means you're likely to cut yourself somehow this year (by accident or otherwise). But there are always inventive ways around them - such as donating blood, or a blood test, so usually the advice is, again, to take control of that crisis and e.g. get your blood tested (which is really just a healthy annual thing to do anyway).

4. The different lucky and unlucky [stars] are highlighted in a different way through the translations as I think they're quite poetic and descriptive in themselves. Chinese people are really good at marketing (chicken feet anybody?) and so some of these stars are very descriptive of whether they're good or bad, but others...not so much. It's hard to translate the feeling you get when you read something like [Drowning] which in Chinese has other connotations...but I'm trying to get it as close to that feeling as I can :)

The Zodiac Predictions

🐎 Horse - The Year of Being Your Own Worst Enemy

Last year was apparently a fantastic year for horses (can confirm?) - a new chapter, a [Sun] star breathing energy and life into your being, like a shot of Red Bull to give you wings. This year, considering it is literally your direct name year, there'll be myriad shifts and changes in your life from all corners (👎👎👎). However, as with all name years, if you're able to take advantage of that change energy, it could unlock the next, higher level of success in your life - whether that's a major project or win (in your personal or work life), or solidifying your position, status or power. HORSES STRONG.

Let's get some of the bad stuff out of the way first - Horses are in their direct name year, so even though there will be a lot of effort expended in doing things by yourself and pushing yourself to the next level for that big win, it comes at an extra cost of your mental health, stress, and also, apparently, physical harm. Specifically, the type of name year is one called [Wu Wu self-punishment] (午午自刑) which sounds like a racist slur but it means that most of the bad luck is your own - your greatest enemy will be yourself!

Boo, horses. Get your shit together.

In addition, your unlucky stars - the [Goat Spear], [Sharp Sword] and [Corpse] stars - are all markers of blood crises, most likely due to sharp blades, transportation-related accidents, heart and blood issues etc. As mentioned before, there's a higher chance of physical injury, but our feng shui master also talks about greater risk of isolation and internal rumination this year, which may lead to mindless or rushed actions. Try to just spend more time in the community - volunteer, host people at your house, go join some team sports...wait actually don't join sports because you shouldn't do anything dangerous this year. Make sure you get your yearly fully body check up and be careful in taking any risks at all this year.

Horses are usually stubborn and don't like to admit defeat, but it's a year that you'll have to learn to challenge these beliefs, and focus on the bigger picture - try to 'find the cracks of sun in the clouds of the year'. Your lucky stars - the [Golden Cabinet] and [Commander Star] - signify great strides in your work, being recognized for your leadership abilities, and being able to gather great partners and teams around you - as long as you're willing to grind for it. Keep yourself in check, don't rush into things, and there's a small chance you could double your good fortune this year.

Also, it's a good year for Horses to buy houses (?? translator's note: this was a very random addition into the fortune)

It's a big year, romance-wise, to start your family and have kids (if you're married). If you're still single, you'll hopefully find a good partner. If you're married, make sure to check in with your partner and see that you're on the same page and direction in life, in case there are any misunderstandings going forward. It's a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest, so I guess, as with any relationships, communicate.

More interestingly, if you're a Female Horse, your fate is in far places - whether finding your partner, or getting married, or other related surprises.

To dispel some of the bad luck, Summer Horses should wear a gold chain (bracelet or necklace), and put a pot of water near your bed to get rid of the 'heaty' energy. Also, make sure you pick specifically good days if you are going to go travel! Use a site like this one to see if the date you're leaving is auspicious for 'travel'.

In summary: You're stubborn and you don't like to lose, but retreating and regrouping can also be a way to win. Don't get in your own way and fuck everything up. Be prepared for risks, accidents, and over-intellectualising your issues. If you do, you might just survive the year.

🐑 Sheep - The Year of Fortune Favouring the Healthy

Last year, Sheep galloped ahead like horses, making bold, new strides at work, gaining accomplishments off the sweat(? wool?) off their own back, and getting out what they put in. Luckily for our Sheep, y'all have the Six Unities with Horses, which foretells GREAT FORTUNE for the year. It's time for the Sheep to grow wings (gonna be a weird lookin' sheep), and shine with a new life and happiness in the Year of the Horse.

The key lucky star this year is the [Jade Throne], which awards you a lot of buffs in life. Many valuable sponsors will appear who can help you with work, your status and reputation will grow sharply through yours and their efforts, and bring you to the very top of where you'd like to be. You become a great host, as well, spending a lot of time at big celebrations with your family and friends, and gain a lot of respect from people you respect as well. If you can leverage your great relationships for good, there'll be lots of great new things to write in this year for this chapter of your life.

The [Golden Chariot] star handles everything related to your fortune, specifically, money. There are a lot of opportunities to make money - whether that's from starting new businesses, promotions, or mergers with people or businesses that will raise you higher and higher. You need to be vigilant and prepare for this success; take advantage of all the great opportunities coming your way and make some CASHHH (translator's note: also, cut me in, yeah?)

With every rainbow comes a little rain, so let's go through your unlucky stars for the year. The [Stranger Mystery Star] means that you will dive into more introspective thought - 'tens of thousands' of thoughts - that may cause you stress and lead you to decision / analysis paralysis. Erm, try not to do that, maybe? Our feng shui master gives no more advice about this...

The [Leaking Luck Omen] means that you're more likely to get into relationship situations that lead to misunderstandings which...okay fine, he means affairs. It means that if you don't sort that shit out and cut off any potential 'romantic branches', your relationSHIP is going to be running into a storm. But if you do sort it all out...the Six Unities will accelerate your relationship to new heights; whether that's getting engaged, married, having kids, or going on a second honeymoon. Just avoid situations where those affairs might crop up - drinking, gambling etc. - or you might get an STD (translator's note: yup, he specifically says this!).

More specifically, the [Sickness] star (very self-explanatory) tell us that you need to make sure you don't push yourself too hard and make yourself sick. It's top of the list for things you need to be wary of this year, as certain birth year Sheep are going through a 'Big Calamity' year (大厄年).

Top tips from our feng shui master: go to get a full body check up at the start of the year and go to temple to pray for peace and safety. Do more activities that are relaxing and good for the body and soul - whether that's travel, yoga, drinking good Chinese soups (translator's note: I got some recipes just ask me (okay specifically my mum has recipes, but still ask me)), keeping your nerves relaxed etc.

Summer Sheep should be more careful of blood-related sicknesses, and make sure to put more copper dragons and oxen around your house - their 'wet earth' energy will soak up the heat from your Summer and Fire Horse interactions.

In summary: Sit on your jade throne of success and thrive with your work, wealth and fortune. Bask in the glow of your own efforts and those of your sponsors. But keep an eye on your health, 'cos all that'll be for naught if you're sick!

🐒 Monkey - The Year of Talking Less, and Smiling More

Last year was a name year for Monkeys, but many were still able to get results out of a challenging year. This year, Monkeys will need to stay the course and adapt to the changing tides of the sea, as waves crash on all sides. No big moves, stay patient and calm, slow growth and making the most of what you've got is the way.

For your lucky stars, the [Writing Karma] star points to a year of enhanced thought and insight, with creativity and innovation following closely whereever you go. Your studies and training will improve, and your work will be high quality, especially in cultural / arts / performance type industries, where the spotlight will be turned on you. The [Shadow Fortune] star essentially points to income and fortune that comes from more...shadowy? sources - like side hustle money (translator's note: or drugs, idk). Your normal day job will be fine, but the opportunities for more money lay elsewhere (translator's note: or writing feng shui books perhaps?)

And...that's about it for lucky stars unfortunately.

Yeah, strap in.

To start, we have the [Sky Dog] star, which every year is one of the worst ones. I look for it every year cos it's got such a cute name but it brings about such mad stuff - it's easier this year for people to cheat you out of stuff, it destroys relationships with other people, and make it harder for you to partner up with people from a business standpoint. Added to that, it also foretells injuries, accidents, loss of fortune, health incidents, and impacts to your wealth.

Phew. Not a great star to shine on you...

Y'all also got the [Lonely Hour] unlucky star, which is about 'cold wars' between husband/wife, relationship troubles, or just getting bored / less interested in your partner. This is worse for Male Monkeys than Female ones, but will impact both - you're liable to kind of going into your own world / head and try to isolate yourself / focus on your own needs rather than being considerate of others. The advice here is to get into religion or philosophy as an aid to get through these issues.

From a health perspective, the [Goat Spear] and [Flying Blade] stars mean that you may have transporation-related incidents (e.g. car accidents), blade / blood crises or just general accidents in life. Stay vigilant! Go get your body check up / blood test at the start of they ear, and make sure you look after you heart and stomach specifically.

And for the cherry on top of this ugly sundae, the [Hanging Guest] unlucky star means there may be a loss of property or life 'far away' from you that will impact you - maybe not specifically about your family or friends, and may not have a direct effect on your life, but something to look out for (translator's note: I'm not sure exactly what this means, but it's what he wrote so I'm translating it that way)

YIKES so with so many bad things, our feng shui master says to stick near Rats, Snakes and Dragons who can help you get out of this unlucky situation. Make sure you attend to all the details of deals or plans that you make, lest you get cheated or scammed. Don't get into unncessary conflict or arguments - talk less, smile more. It's not a year where work or romance will have outsize gains, it's more about just trying to improve yourself every day, stay curious about the world, learn more, and hone your craft for the next few years to come.

In summary: Stay on the defence this year and just keep the ship afloat. Don't worry about extraneous things, avoid risk, and focus on your own shit (like your own hobbies or things that make you happy). 🐓Rooster (me!) - The Year of Straight Up Winning

Last year was good, this year's even better! Work and career are on the upswing, the energy is 'like a rainbow', and fortune shines on work, love, and health!! It's time to celebrate another year of 'singing happily through'!!!

Call it the Hollywood Walk of Fame because look at all of these STARS: [Sky Karma], [Fortune Karma], [Fortune Star], [Red Fairy], [Sky B] and [Tai Chi Star] - literally so many stars they'll sear away the storm and clouds in the sky, and you'll feel like everything you do is almost like a god is helping you do it. Have the confidence to perform miracles in life, and be recognised for your achievements.

Most of these are about having strong sponsors in life that can raise you to the top, that you'll be raised up even more at work / career, and that everything you put your mind to you'll achieve. Watch out as you swim in the success of all these people who want to support your growth, and see you take control of the things you want in your life.

The unlucky [Rolling Tongue] star means that others might start rumours about you, and get you into arguments with others. The advice here is to just let it pass, and not let others control your emotional state and mess with it - don't worry, the trash will take itself out. The [Pi Ma] star points to death events (which can mean a lot of things - it really just means the ending of things), but do keep an eye on you and your family's health (especially elders) regardless. Make sure you travel or go out on good travel days (according to the lunar calendar) and try not to engage in too many risky activities.

In summary: It's going to be such a hot boy/girl YEAR for Roosters. We are winning, we are successful, we are performing MIRACLES with our life. Enjoy it while it lasts, as the Zodiac keeps turning and turning....

🐕 Dog - The Year of Wealthy Serenity:

Last year was a great year for Dogs being the top of the Zodiac charts. This year, Dogs have Three Unities with Horses, which means they'll be great with people, shined on favourably with fortune and money, and a career that launches upwards like a rocket ship!

So, lucky stars. First up is the [Admiral Star] which helps you sit in leadership positions, see the whole picture, and manage things competently. Your boss will see and recognise this, and solidify your power (whether status or reputation-wise) in your job. The [Gold Cabinet] opens doors for your fortune and wealth - whether in investments, or 'accidental' wealth windfalls that come as a surprise. You'll still need to work hard for them, but the opportunity is there for the taking! GET RICHHHHH!!! (translator's note: AND CUT ME INNNNN I WANNA BE RICH TOO)

The [Earth Solve] star helps to turn the bad into the good, the complex into the simple, the danger into peace. It means that you will be good at solving issues that crop up in your life simply and easily, and can lay down solutions like nobody's business (translator's note: maybe you should join consulting???). If you can get Horses or Tigers as your sponsors, it will make all your efforts doubly as effective. You need to take control of the opportunities that come before you - 'work hard, and the water will naturally fill the dam'.

But, eek - there's a [White Tiger] unlucky star also shining down, which is about the rumour mill and people talking shit behind your back. This will lead to arguments and perhaps even turn violent if you're not careful, so try to keep your emotions in check when these happen. These emotional things (rumors, arguments) might also stem from relationship issues, so be wary of girls or guys playing you, or trying to fuck with your feelings, or even tempting you to cheat. As a specific note, those born in '94 are going into what's called a 'Big Calamity Year' which occurs for women when they're 33 lunar calendar / 32 gregorian calendar - there is just an extra risk to think about getting pregnant. Make sure to get into yoga, wellness and other calming hobbies this year to try and dispel this energy. 🐀 Rat - The Year of Being The Number One Opp:

Last Year Rats had a not too bad year, with a relatively good time in the community, and getting some good results in different areas of their life. This year, though, they are directly opposite Horses in terms of the Zodiac, and that is one of the most oppositional name years that you can get. The universe is sending all its soldiers against you this year - make sure your seatbelt is fastened as we go through a rough patch of turbulent challenges during the year.

So...the oppositional name year that you have means you're going to face challenges.

Sure. Why not.

But this also means its the right time to lean into that and make big changes in your life that will just be swallowed up by the chaos in your life anyway.

This is a year of change. Move houses, renovate, relocate overseas, change your job, change your hair, change your life. You're going to have to use that effort anyway, so why not try and make it fun? Rats are naturally fun-loving, and leaning into the challenge like a tree in the wind is better than trying to fight against it like a boulder against a landslide. Take charge of that energy and make a change.

Though, well, you should definitely go to temple to pray this year, and get a good whole body checkup. The [Age Break] and [Flying Dagger] stars point towards accidents, blade crises and blood crises - and the combination of this all at once is bad. The only slight glimmer from a lucky star is the [Fortune Star Sponsor] which does point to a valuable sponsor in your life that helps you from the shadows. They'll help not necessarily in a loud or flashy way (i.e. a boss who raises you high or recognises your accomplishments in public) but more likely will be someone who subtly pushes you to where you need to be. Try to get close with Ox sponsors to mitigate some of the bad energy this year, and be friends with Dragons and Monkeys to borrow their good relationship energy and make up for the shitty year you're going to be having.

Romance-wise, on theme - it's shit. Try to stay away from arguments and getting into bad situations lest you separate or get divorced. Single Rats, just...try and work on yourself. It's not gonna be a good year.

For your health, it's again not good. Female Rats, be conscious of your ovaries and womb. Elder Rats, be careful of strokes, heart conditions, brain issues, and artery / vein issues. Definitely get a blood test at the start of the year. If you're born between May 5 to August 6 (gregorian calendar), your health is likely to have big swings, unfortunately. Try to put copper Ox and Dragon type things around your house and work area to mitigate this bad energy.

In summary: Rats should be leaning into the change that comes this year, and also try to rest and relax as much as they can. Stay low-key, try to save as much as you can financially, and roll with the punches. For now, there's no need to push or fight for big things - just take a year off. 🐂 Ox - The Year of Gently Stealing the Spotlight:

Sounds like you had a smashing year of career success last year! If not, you screwed up somewhere, 'cos the Zodiac's never wrong. Unfortunately, this year is a harming name year which means there's a marked decrease in your luck, but you should be able to hang on to most of your fortune if you're careful, detailed, and hardworking.

Classic Ox stuff, should be no problem.

The [Moon Karma] star shines brightly on you, which signifies happiness, peace, and the averting of calamities in your life. You'll be more generous, peaceful, kind and courteous together, and most importantly, bring a sense of calm when interacting with others. As noted, it's a name year, and for Ox, it means there will be a few friendship debacles. Ox will be more easily tricked and cheated by others, especially when it comes to money and scams...so don't pick up any suspicious phone calls, or click any weird internet links.

Make sure that you look after you own health and safety as well, as the [Death Seal] star notes that there may be unforeseen accidents or hidden diseases lurking around the corner.
