285 - a little life update ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ผ๏ธ๐โ
make like a train and keep chugging on forward; also, the Borrowed Time gets into trouble!
Hey there, !
We are back with another 4-week life update which is good and fun and awesome. MANY GOOD VIBES:
-
At the moment, I feel like life is going pretty well - making progress on many fronts, in small steps. I don't know why, but I've been feeling more productive for some reason - more motivation to just do things. They aren't necessarily even big things - just like 'oh I've got a little time, maybe I'll try and make a start on X'. I used to (read, still) feel like I have to set aside big chunks of time to do big things, but small steps lead to big mountains, so we're just riding up and down the ridges for now. Though, I mean, I'm still finding time to enjoy life - look, games :D
-
Had some delicious food for my birthday weekend - main one to highlight was Serai which I already did a recommend for, but these sisig tacos were DELICIOUS and I loved them so much so I thought they could do with an additional shoutout :D

In some project news, the gallery wall is slowly going up. I've had a bunch of framed art pieces in my house for a while, so I thought (with some new found motivation) that I should just go do it. The most surprising thing has been finding out there are so many decisions when you go down a resolution step - as in, get into the detail of it. Should it be a grid, or a off-centre? Should they align or not align? Should I have the same colours or not the same colours? Should I have full bleed frames or have a mat for each one? Should they be thin or thick? What colour works best? It's harder when you're alone; no-one to bounce off the opinions, and more importantly, no-one to hold it up to where you think it'll look good so you can walk back and be like 'yeah okay that works'. Ah well, c'est la vie.

Been seeing a lot of movies lately; I think because it's summer in the US and there's like...a movie a WEEK coming out. I have watched Tampopo, Materialists, Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning, and looking forward to watching From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina (what a title). They've all been pretty good! - feels like I'm due a stinker soon. Also been watching Devil's Plan Season 2 which is SO good - I've recommended The Genius before, and it's by the same people, just updated for Netflix. The games, the narratives, the production!!!
-
Celebrancy is actually trucking along which is good. We are now at a confirmed 3/12 completed, with 2 in the hopper ready to be filmed/written. Progress is HAPPENING. I'm aiming for at least one full assignment completed every 2 weeks, so if we have hangs in those weeks, I'm probably going to ask you to help (thanks in advance โค๏ธ)
-
I tried testing myself on my sonnets the other day - and I've forgotten like 3 of them already!! It's so hard to remember the exact wording - I still remember the shapes of them, but not the specific words - and that's important because of the iambic pentameter that Shakespeare writes in!

๐Today's Question
Results:
- Money is being used for: Purchasing old-world renaissance-era art
- Grandit is...: An old forgotten god that you pray to
- You press the: small, blinking green button
- You send: Jimmy / yourself. This one will have to be dealer's choice then :D
--
You slam the small, blinking green button and open comms back through the time vortex to the stealth station and your employers.
"Emergency broadcast from Borrowed Time. Time vortex unstable - do not come this way! I repeat - time vortex unstable - find alternate route!!"
Jimmy and Sayla look harried as time continues to go in and out of sync.
"Jimmy - go check out those stabilisers! Sayla, I'm gonna pilot us out of here - we're going to have to inject some of our reserve time into the vortex to at least land SOMEWHERE."
Another shock punches the ship, and rattles the metal all around you. Grandit you bastard, you pray, I'm your only beliver left soyou better get us through this unscathed.
"GO!"
Jimmy scampers out and you see different afterimages of him running out of the door. Sayla clips back into her seat, and nods at you. Time distorts as you see your arms and hands moving at different speeds, and Sayla answers you too quickly before you ask your question.
"The purple isn't getting any better!! We need to bail, pronto!"
"Where are we at with the vortex, Sayla?" the deafening shrieks and rips of the time vortex grow with every second. You see the swirls of red and blue flashing past you, the past and the future growing and ebbing as you ride the waves of the vortex. There are two main currents you can see that seem to be leading out.
"Nope, I'm trying him now!"
"Jimmy - where are you at??" you shout down the internal comms. "Sayla, can you hear him?"
"Stabilisers, Cap'n - we've had some damage but nothing we can't fix. Give me a second to - wait, what's thi- ARGH!"
"JIMMY!"
Silence. A pause. The ship keeps creaking around you as you push through vortex, trying to navigate through and finding an exit into the inky blackness outside. Precious seconds slip by.
"Jimmy! Talk to me!"
"Agh - them wires are jumping in and out of alive and dead," Jimmy sucks his teeth. "Best we get out of this as soon as possible Cap'n! And I have to tell you-"
"Got it! Get outta there; Sayla - are we ready with the reserve?"
"Yes Cap! Just say the word!"
You look out into the swirling maelstrom of time and the flashes of light and darkness - scars of previous time jumps - trying to find somewhere you can dump your precious backup time to tear open a safe landing point.
"On my mark! Jimmy, get clear of the stabilisers and hold on to something!"
"What, like all your shitty-ass paintings?"
You slam down on the big red button, "NOW!"
โ๏ธReal Life Recommendations
-
Tampopo - 4.5 stars - a love letter to life through the lens of food. I recommend not reading anything else about this and just going into it blind, because that's what I did and it's just so unexpected. The easiest way to describe it is 'a ramen western film', where some truckers try to help a struggling ramen shop improve - but it's so much more than that. Highly highly recommended!!
-
Mensho Ramen - michelin starred, apparently, and it's good ramen if a little bit strong, and a little bit unbalanced in terms of the flavours. It's not bad - the noodles are a good level of chewy, and the broth is nice, but sometimes more subtlety works better. Still, recommended!

David Attenborough at 99: โI will not see how the story endsโ - nostalgic but hopeful, I think, as Attenborough recalls some fun times in nature.
