253 - I'll enjoy it if it's European βοΈπβοΈ
Hey there, !

I'm back and SPRING HAS SPRUNG wow omg so nice. Did you know what my favourite season is because it's definitely not spring.
Spring is back with a vengeance in Melbourne; we are back to sniffly noses and eyes rubbed raw (or trying with all my willpower not to) and rejoicing privately when there's rain (less pollen, y'see?). This is the time of the year that I enjoy probably the least, and though I know y'all are looking forward to the sun and the sand and the surf, this guy wants to make sure it's as cloudy and overcast as possible and please, NO WIND.
Something I wanted to add to that last post was that a close second for the worst season is summer, because I mean seriously - it's so freakin' HOT. The skin burns, the heat is oppressive, sunscreen won't save you, the sun is everywhere, everything is baking; people say that everything in Australia kills you and it's true - including the SUN.
Global warming is definitely going to push our summers up higher and higher - get to 45+ I'm sure (I think the Middle East often gets 50+ days?). The problem doesn't go away, and as I grow older I rely way more on my AC to keep me alive and not stressed about getting heat stroke.
HOWEVER as an addendum to that addendum - I'll enjoy summer if it's a European one. I mean, look at how happy this guy is:

No worries in the world, linen-life, balmy late-20's weather with a great breeze, next to a lusciously lazy river. Every day was a lovely one to be out in the sun for, there are parks, there's shade, there's delicious Portugese tarts and/or fish and chips in London and/or kebabs in Berlin. Am I already nostalgic for something that was like 2 months ago? Yes, yes I am.
The summer was brilliant, and I wish we had it in Melbourne. Or perhaps I just liked being on holiday?
Regardless, I think I totally get it now - who's in for a European summer every year?? Just need the money and time to do so...π π π

-
Yi Yi - a 3 hour slice of life movie from 2000 by Edward Yang - a Taiwanese movie that follows a middle-class family just trying to get through life, and it's a masterpiece. It's slow and philosophical, and though nothing really happens, a lot happens from a character point of view. There's exploration from the boy (who is like 5 or 6) looking at the world, a teenage girl navigating first romances, and a father reflecting on old romances. Super highly recommended - but it's hard to find without pirating so...sail the seas my friends!

Co Do - I don't go out to Richmond that much, but if you're looking for Bun Bo Hue - this place was bangin'! Good soup, chewy noodles, generous portions of meat all equals to a great experience. Recommended!

Immutable Happiness - a newsletter called 'In Bed With Social' that I love reading at the moment. This one is about the idea that luxury moments in the feature will be those that are inaccessible to computers; the moments of memory that are etched in your brain, the art that cannot be recreated, the time that cannot be reclaimed. Ephemerality as a luxury.
