Hey there, !

I'm off to Japan soon again. It's the first time I've been back for a while, so it'll be exciting :) I'm most looking forward to the FOOD and having money to spend and places to go.

I went to watch Dune 2 in IMAX and it is IMMENSE! We love seeing it in live action after so long being in my imagination. There's so much to unpack with it but I'm just happy I was alive to see a great movie like that make it to the screen. Also, love that people are becoming dune shitposters on Twitter

I started a celebrancy course - I'm studying a Cert IV in Celebrancy that I was warned by the course holder would take about a year to get through the content, but it's hella exciting to do! As with everything I do, I feel like my initial full-blown enthusiasm has now matured into a 'wow this is kinda interesting' - very mature-aged student coded and I'm loving it. I wanna do more of these in the future I think; it's always good to keep learning :)

I went up to Sydney a week or two ago for work and it was really nice to meet people that I've only met on screen. It really helped me see who they were in person and just like...vibe, y'know? Some of these people I've been working with for years since COVID and this is the first time we've met in person! What a time.

I bought a few records thanks to Dru who runs some great group chats on bargains - 1 (by the Beatles), Chet Baker Sings, John Coltrane's My Favourite Things, and Little Simz' Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert. I know that I don't need to keep buying these - and my Google Home set up is nice, but it's also nice to have just one album to be listening to, and that it stops after a while. It's a cozy way to mark the passing of time, y'know?

I went to The Moth to listen to some storytelling; I've realised recently (especially after starting to do the Cert IV) that I really want to learn more about how to tell a good story and do better storytelling. A lot of things that I read or watch are about breaking down movies or books or telling stories in different mediums, so I thought it would be useful to try and find places where people practice it. The event was good - some good storytellers, some not as good - and I think gave me the confidence to say that I'd probably be okay at telling a story LOL so let's see if next time I can go and tell a great story!
Chat soon :)

You're the Top - an old Cole Porter song, re-launched as part of the musical "Anything Goes" in 2011, sung by Sutton Foster and Colin O'Donnell. It's such a fun duet, and so optimistic and fun and in love. I've had it on repeat for a while - it reminds me of singin' days!
-
Nanyang Express - it's in Balwyn North, and does $10 Hainanese Chicken Rice, Kolo Mee, White Curry laksa, Sarawak Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Chee Cheong Fun - it's SO CHEAP I can't believe they still do such cheap lunches around here! Bring a tear to my eye that there's still hope in the world yet :D Really generous portions for the amount it is as well! Highly recommended

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's son publishes novel that late author wanted destroyed - how much do we want more from the people that we love to read, even when they've passed away? I remember reading Douglas Adams' The Salmon of Doubt which was his unfinished work before he passed away, which ends on a ridiculously interesting cliffhanger, and realising that we would never be able to work out how he was going to bring it all together again. But I was super appreciative that I got to read it, even if it wasn't his best work. I don't know - an interesting thing to think about.

Clouds Vanish During a Solar Eclipse, And We Finally Know Why - I didn't know this! Did you?

Why Don't We Just Kill the Kid In the Omelas Hole by Isabel J. Kim - this is why I love science fiction short stories. This piece is based on the famous short story by Ursula K. Le Guin called 'Those who walk away from Omelas', where the total utopia and happiness of Omelas is provided in exchange for the torture of a child. This piece is in response to it, and updated with a view from today's lens. Take a read - I really liked it.
