221 - poems I read recently 📝🎶

Poetry is really pretty, I've found more recently. Here are some that I have enjoyed :)

We have not long to love - Tennessee Williams

We have not long to love.
    Light does not stay.
    The tender things are those
    we fold away.
    Coarse fabrics are the ones
    for common wear.
In silence I have watched you
    comb your hair.
    Intimate the silence,
    dim and warm.
I could but did not, reach
    to touch your arm.
I could, but do not, break
    that which is still.
(Almost the faintest whisper would be shrill.)
    So moments pass as though
    they wished to stay
We have not long to love.
    A night. A day...

In Passing - Liesl Muller

How swiftly the strained honey
of afternoon light
flows into darkness

and the closed bud shrugs off
its special mystery
in order to break into blossom

as if what exists, exists
so that it can be lost
and become precious

To Be Alive - Gregory Orr

To be alive: not just the carcass
    But the spark.
    That's crudely put, but...

If we're not supposed to dance,
    Why all this music?

✔️Real Life Recommendations

  1. This Crispy Roast Pork Recipe - bit different vibes, but I've made this about 3 or 4 times and each time it has SLAPPED. You don't need as much salt for the crust as he puts in there, and usually you need to do the second stronger bake for longer than he says, but it's still really good as a recipe to follow! I think he has an airfryer method as well, but I don't have an airfryer so I haven't tried it. Go go go try it out!

  2. La couleur de la mer - a lovely jazz funk album I found on Instagram, instantly listened to it and fell in love. I don't usually recommend music cos I suck at finding it, but this was such a pleasant listen! Very much movie detective soundtrack vibes, which I loooove.

🚌 Adventures on the Information Super-Highway

  1. How many jacaranda trees are there in Sydney? - some fun data explorations of the number of jacaranda trees in Sydney. The answer is entirely expected :D

  2. You're not lacking creatively, you're overwhelmed - your willpower is a limited resource - try and build systems to use it better.

  3. Little Bobby Tables has a baby sister. Meet Sally Ignore Previous Instructions. - I think this has been patched now, but it was fun to see Little Bobby Tables from XKCD!
