220 - new year life update! π₯³ππ²
Hey there, !
Before I begin, I thought I'd just update y'all - I'm going to be slowing down on frequency for the newsletter. As always, I still have the backlog going, so I won't be missing anything for a few weeks - but I'm going to try and spend more time either:
- coming up with better content and thoughts
- doing more things so that I can pack my life updates with more stuff :D
I just want to make sure I don't feel rushed to write, and I'm writing the stuff that I want to write as much as possible. I'm still enjoying writing these personal things, but I'm not as excited to write anything deeper. I'm not sure why - perhaps it's energy, perhaps it's that my priorities have shifted, or perhaps that I'm just wanting to try new things. Or have all the thoughts been thought already...?
I know I did a holiday update last week, but I wanted to do a slightly deeper dive into it, so here we go!

WE'VE GOT OUR HANDS ON THE CHINESE FENG SHUI BOOK!!!! I'm working on the translations now - but guys, spoiler alert; it's Year of the Dragon and ROOSTERS ARE COMIN' HOME TO ROOST. As in, let the good times and good vibes roll - so...we are looking at a ripper year ahead!

I have a list of books that I want to progress...but there's just so much to do D: I've been trying to struggle through A Stroke of a Pen by Terry Pratchett, How to Rule Your Own Nation by George Williams, Letters from a Stoic by Seneca; I was actually extremely chuffed that I ripped through Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus though, which was a great page-turner. I don't know why it was so easy to read, but I just sat down, opened it, and only put it down after I finished! Anyway, though I have long backlog, give me any other great book recommendations if you can!

I am continuously battling this urge to buy things that make me happy, trying lots of new different hobbies because I want to experiment and try things in my life, catching up with family and friends enough, and making sure I'm growing - in mind, body, wealth, spirit - all of it. Honestly, it's tough. I read some twitter stuff recently which was analysing the bias for most guys to laziness, which is why there are societal structures and expectations in place to push them past that, and use more...positive masculine energy, I guess, to do things. Which is hard to motivate yourself to do! I'm so accustomed to my habits and routines - it's so hard to change...but I'm trying. All of this new energy is trying, at the end of a year of change, to push further past and experiment more - just like I said I would. NEW YEAR NEW ME.

I get my Long Service Leave this year, which is something I thought I wouldn't ever say HAHA. I used to think, when I was in uni, that I would never stay at a place long enough to get LSL, or that I would be starting something somewhere that wouldn't even need it (e.g. a startup). Life is funny that way, hey?

Some recent food adventures - char siu (that was too lean), fried chicken (that wasn't spicy enough) and home-grown basil pesto (where there wasn't enough!)
Chat soon :)
Let me know if you have any feedback for the newsletter!

Devil's Plan - from the creators/producers of the hit Korean 'brainy' variety show The Genius, Netflix got them to create a new version for them! Including a bunch of celebrity actors, professional gamers, Go players, YouTubers - all of them vying for some $$$. Imagine you play Mafia, but you get an hour for each round...to create alliances, to work out information, to scheme and to deal with each other; just fascinating to watch! The editing is so freakin' good, and does exactly what Squid Game did - make you want to keep watching by cutting right at the cliffhanger. Highly recommended!!!

mietta by Rosemary - cakes from instagram becomes cakes from a shop! Situated in Malvern with some luscious cakes (with price tags to match), they are fantastically delicious and moist. I didn't go personally, but sampled the goods and they are so flavourful and delicious. YUM definitely go if you can :D

Do we live in a society without a counter-culture? - or perhaps, we have too many niche countercultures that aren't conglomerated into a big enough outfit that makes it a force to be reckoned with. Probably the closest would be...climate change perhaps? But even with that it doesn't seem like it's really counter culture anymore. Anyway - food for thought.

How NASA Solved a $100 Million Problem for Five Bucks - y'know, one of those fun li'l engineering things that smart engineers do and work out :D
