193 - I'm not superstitious...
...but I am a little stitious.
Hey there, !
There have been a few things in the past few weeks and months that I've been a little...curious about. My mind has latched on to ideas that I just can't shake, making me question what's real and what's not!
They're fairly innocuous things, but they've led me to some very superstitious conclusions:
-
The light on my porch was on in the morning, which I specifically remember wasn't on at night (I think...)
-
My normal water glass was changed from it's normal location on my desk to the microwave without me remembering doing it
-
Windows opened around the house without me knowing why
-
One specific smart light on when I got home, rather than all four on (or none of them on) (?!)
-
The sounds of my house settling, but with like...doors banging? Like...what? It might be the cellar but the cellar is always locked!
-
I've lost a charging cable that I have searched high and low for in the house which has apparently dropped into a different dimension
Like, look, there are perfectly rational reasons for all of these, which mostly come down to 'Wow Vince you're very forgetful' - but still! What if it wasn't me??
I have come to the following conclusions using logic, rationality and a big dose of "What if...":
-
A future time traveling version of me come back into the past to pick things up (which explains why they wouldn't like...steal my phone or something). Like if it was a neighbour they would just be trying to steal stuff right? but they aren't!
-
Someone was living in my attic and / or cellar (so they're only taking food and drink...and trying to stay hidden - Parasite anyone???) - I did check the cellar though but it's pretty dank.
-
One of my neighbours fucking with me (very sinister)
-
A ghost (just for shits and giggles). What if I'm haunted?!
It's so easy to become superstitious when you can't think of an explanation, y'know?
So...I'll just be a little stitious :D

✔️Real Life Recommendations
-
The Great Australian Bake Off - it's on BINGE / Foxtel, and a good friend of mine Laura is on this season! Some of the most creative cake/biscuit/pastries I've seen - she made MAHJONG BISCUITS. Freakin' fantastic - go watch if you haven't :D
-
Black Mirror Season 6 - if you like Black Mirror, then you already know what's up. This season is definitely more on the horror and 'what would humans do in a super weird effed up situation' rather than the 'here's some new tech what happens to the world' vibe but I am LOVIN' it. It's become a bit more predictable but it's still wonderfully acted, written and portrayed. Highly recommended!!!

You'd be happier living closer to to friends, why don't you? - well, because home ownership is bloody hard isn't it? And not everyone likes the same thing for their house and where they live, and what they're willing to trade off to live closer to the city, for example etc. etc. And making a decision based on friends could be difficult if there's a falling out etc. etc. But...it's nice to think about :D

Programmer Interrupted: The Real Cost of Interruption and Context Switching - the article is about programming, but it applies to all types of knowledge work I think; building up the context in your head so that you know what you need to do. When you have to throw that away to do something else, it's hard to come back to what you had before. If only we could have save states in our brains!

I talk with an AI Music Historian - very very interesting - so much of this analysis could just be coming as regurgitated from what it learns online, but honestly it sounds pretty good too?
