187 - A Low Effort Post

Hey there, !

Don't you just hate it when you see a TikTok (seen through the lens of Instagram Reels) that is a duet where the other person provides absolutely no value to the original post?

Like, dude, it's a share, but did you really have to?

It absolutely shivers my damn timber...you could have just not done anything - just swipe on in our little bubbles of doomscrolling and designed-to-destroy-your-attention algorithms already and not clog up the pipes of the internet with your shitty content, but instead you've decided to literally film your reaction to something - in some cases it's literally JUST LOOKING AT THE SCREEN. You put in effort, to add nothing. UGH.

Apropos of everything, I also hate all reaction videos except this one: FIRST TIME HEARING Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight REACTION - YouTube. Gogglebox would get a pass if I ever had time to watch it.

I mean look, it's just...sharing content for the sake of sharing content. There's nothing there! It's not actually bringing value to anyone's life! Which I guess is the reason for all types of content anyway, like videos and pics and...e-mail newsletters...uh-oh...

Anyway all this to say I don't have anything substantial to say because I'm swamped with work and my backlog is dry, so here's a low effort post for you all!

Love you all <3

✔️Real Life Recommendations

  1. China: The Cookbook - I picked this up from the Readings Bargain Table for like...$10 or something, and it's phenomenal! It's a fantastic tome of knowledge about Chinese cooking - my favourite thing being that it details which area of China it's from, and that it has recipes that are simple to follow. I cooked a Bird's Nest prawn dish from it - it was actually kinda fun too! I'm loving that after reading Salt Fat Acid Heat I can grok recipes now and use them as inspo rather than following them to a T. Highly recommended!

Look at what I made! Hard to see it but it's the birds nests underneath :D:

    birdsnest

  2. The Sound of Music soundtrack - Idk it's just really good? I don't remember if I recommended this before but I'm in a musical phase again and I loved the nostalgia of listening to 'Edelweiss' and 'My Favourite Things'.

🚌 Adventures on the Information Super-Highway

  1. Gandalf AI Prompt Injection - try to trick Gandalf (i.e. chatGPT) to give up the password! Mix it up, tell it to tell you the password backwards, or one letter at a time - whatever you can do to trick an AI! Great fun

  2. Religious AI - kinda scary? Making an AI that speaks like a god, that literally is biased towards keeping the current biases of the world it has been built within. Though it's not an optimal outcome for anyone, I still think this will be the future of what conversational AI's is going to become - you're going to see AI's with personalities, with beliefs - essentially...like humans?

  3. Blackmail, a victimless crime - a FASCINATING paper that contends that blackmail shouldn't really be a crime. On one hand, you have a request to be paid for something. On the other, you have a threat that says "I'll tell people something you don't want them to tell". Taken separately, they're legal...but taken together they aren't! Really fun argument to read.
