177 - The Art of Writing Poetry ✍️💭❤️
Hey there, !
I suck at poetry, and I’m trying to study new forms of writing, so here’s a challenge to you, dear reader:
Which of the following poems were written by famed Sufi poets, Rumi or Hakim Sanai, either of which inspired the poem from A Shape of Water:
“Unable to perceive the shape of You, I find You all around me. Your presence fills my eyes with Your love, It humbles my heart, For You are everywhere.“
…which were written by me…?
…and which were written by chatGPT?
GOOD LUCK! No cheating - most correct answers gets lunch on me.

Our souls fused through fate
seeking each other through eternity.
Will your eyes recognise
what burns within? -
The way to You
lies clearly in my heart
and cannot be seen or known to the mind.
As my words turn to silence,
Your sweetness surrounds me. -
Let us dance, oh Beloved, in sweet surrender,
Let us sway to the rhythms of love so tender,
For in your embrace, I find my true home,
And in your love, I am never alone. -
When we fall in Love we are ashamed of our words.
Explanation by the tongue makes most things clear,
But Love unexplained is better. -
Delight in the sweet sunlight
and sip from Love’s cool breeze
Her breath’s embrace
is Life itself.

Aru - extremely blessed to celebrate a friend’s 30th at ARU - a most amazing meal with some delicious foods - a native cury kingfish collar, a duck sausage sanga, some DELISH roast duck, the best bloody claypot rice I’ve ever had and, most importantly, we got to take the extras HOME. A fantastic FANTASTIC experience - highly recommended :D

A Year with Rumi: Daily Readings - I tried some other Arabic poetry books and this one has had the best translations (at least, to me). Rumi is a poet that I really like for some reason - I guess it’s kinda abstract, and old, and non-rhyming that I love? There are a lot of poems that I don’t get, but I just loved the doubling down on, well, love through his poems. Really great read, if you like poetry and the poems that were in today’s newsletter!

Popular education in Sweden - this weird movement called Folkbildningsrörelsen which is essentially a book club but you can set it up for literally anything that you want, and the government will give you some funding for it. Study whatever niche thing you want, as long as someone has set it up - and you can report your learning to the government just…because. I really love this idea, honestly - just a haven for continuous learners and a community to do that. Also I was real good at study circles at school so…👀

Why Paper Map Sales are Booming - cos it’s kinda fun? Also people are designing some really cool maps these days which are pretty much art pieces! I wonder if there’s a word for like…rediscovered old shit that becomes really fun and premium a long time later. Like records that have cool designs nowadays. Or are tape decks back yet? Where’s my damn phonograph!

Turing Test Game - essentially, it’s like Jackbox, but one of the players is chatGPT, so you have to try and find the AI impostor! It looks like a fun game but when I tried to join it there was like no-one on :(
