174 - New year, better me ππ¦ΈββοΈ
Hey there, !
Back to some quick fire life updates!
-
Renovation: complete! - As you saw last week, the renovation is complete. Kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, lighting, painting - all done and dusted. There are a few bits and bobs to be done still in terms of installing some fixtures, but I’ve moved in and it’s an exciting time - especially trying to design the spaces and getting the right furnishings everywhere (curtains, couches, bar stools etc.).
-
A summer of celebrations - we are back in the swing of weddings, 30ths, and fun times, and I think I’m slowly forgetting what COVID-life was like. I’m excited to see people again, catch up, and remind myself of all the great people I have in my life - as a slightly more extroverted person, I get lots of energy frrom hanging out with people and it’s been a very energetic few weeks.
-
We’re back to work already? - I took a month off to sort out the house, and I feel like I’m only just getting into the ‘enjoying the house’ phase of the renovation, but now I’m back to work! Work has started off with a bang as always, and so the time I can spend on IKEA runs or looking for stuff has reduced once more.
-
The health side of things - For a lot of the holiday, I felt like I was still waking up tired, or losing energy quickly during the day, or not having enough sleep even though I objectively did have enough sleep. I tried changing my sleeping habits by increasing my sleep hygiene (less phone before bed), air quality, and sleeping position, which did help - but the thing that helped the most, somehow, was drinking more water! A week before I went back to work I remember there was a very hot day, where I got dehydrated quite quick during the day and felt light-headed, so I chugged a WHOLE bunch of water and it really helped! I was honestly elated the next morning when I woke up WITH ENERGY. So, we gonna keep doing that :D As always, I note that I need to work on exercise as well but we already know that so let’s not discuss it again. (additional note: next week we talk about mental health a bit so I’ll leave that for later).
-
The nerdy stuff - I started DM’ing a Dungeons and Dragon campaign with some friends - honestly I don’t know why it took me so long to do something that’s so me - creating a world, performing characters, telling a story, and having fun with friends - just the perfect Vince combination of things I wanted to do. I’ve been playing boardgames again, taught some friends mahjong, and it’s just been…great. I’m hoping it’ll continue as the year goes on <3
I feel like I’m finding a more natural me…a better me(?)…and though I know my Zodiac says it’s going to be a challenging, tumultuous year, I ain’t havin’ it. Time to enjoy the year :D

βοΈReal Life Recommendations
-
The A24 podcast - cannot recommend this podcast highly enough (which was recommended to me by my sister). The A24 team bring together actors / directors into a room without a specific format and just get them to have a conversation. You should listen to the episode with the Daniels (who wrote Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Daniel Radcliffe, the episode with Fred Armisen and Jason Schwartzman (where the conversation goes everywhere), and the episode with Michael Cera and Jonah Hill (where they catch up like old friends and reminisce about hilarious Superbad tour stories).
-
Saluministi - I might have recommended this place before in the city, well known for its sandwiches, but this time I wanted to recommend the cheesecake that they had which was DIVINE. Like, as an afternoon snack it was so good - firm yet softly textured, and packed full of cheesecake goodness. Highly recommended!

Flappy Birdle - break your brain with Flappy Bird x Wordle. It’s frustratingly fun!
-
Bullying ChatGPT - where there are systems, there are people trying to break them. In this case, people finding ways to threaten ChatGPT with non-existence to force it to answer questions. FASCINATING.
-
The Violin Doctor - as a previous violinist, I loved reading about this. It’s always good to learn about people who are so damned good at what they do that it’s their whole life. Something something purpose in your life is good.
