Hey there, !
(On people’s request, more AI Vince! I tried re-training a model and it has broken something, but I’ll keep working on it :D)
Anyway, on to the update!

IT’S DONE…(kinda)! The bulk of the renovation is complete - and now just needs a lick of paint, finish up some electrical work, install some doors and locks, fix up the curtains, connect the internet, etc. etc. etc. and then it’s DONE (so yes, a lot more to go). I mean I still need to furnish the whole place and start decorating and interior designing shit but it’s all starting! We’re moving forward!! Exciting times.

December and January are going to be moving in months - just workin’ on getting everything slowly into the new place, finding out that I haven’t got everything I needed, going home to get it, realising it’s too hot / cold / wet / dry and buying things as needed - it’s gonna be fun times ahead :P Any recommendations of must-have items before moving in?

I’ve been on some pretty hectic work schedules so haven’t had the most time to do all the fun things I want to do, but I have at least been reading and watching things I want to, and planning for next year. A few big trips planned, exciting things to look forward to :)

Going back into the office a lot more these days - mainly due to client needs - but it’s been a great vibe to be in a project room again. Encouraging signs to be back in the office and getting energy from seeing people, but still wanting time at home to have my own time and space to focus when needed. Finding that balance is probably an ongoing need, and balancing it with my own health too.

I got this fun Story Engine deck which helps to generate prompts for story hooks and build worlds using a Deck of Worlds - which they released on Kickstarter last year. I want to write some stories with these prompts, and potentially use them as brainstorming for DND story hooks as well!

Lockpicking has been interesting - it’s still hard, but after not playing with it for a while I was able to get back on the horse and snap open some of the easy locks. I need to get back into understanding how the harder locks work (a bunch of security pins that make it real hard to crack), but it’s fun to learn :) In addition, because I’ve found certain locks harder to open than others, I feel like I know a few more brands of locks when I go to Bunnings LOL. Weird, but fun.

After next week I’m going to do my traditional yearly break from writing (the well is dry!) for a bit longer probably - between 2 - 4 weeks depending on how long it takes me to settle into the new place. Don’t miss me too much!
Chat soon :)
Let me know if you have any feedback for the newsletter!
✔️Real Life Recommendations
-
See How They Run - it’s not bad! Just came out on Disney+, it’s a mystery film that leans heavily on meta tropes. It’s based around the staging of an Agatha Christie play The Mousetrap, and the mystery surrounding a director’s murder. A fun cast, some good quips and comedy, but in the end felt like a less good Knives Out. Still recommended for a fun watch!
-
Dessous - for Friendsmas this year, a subterranean wine bar / restaurant on Flinders Lane, serving some great food and lovely wines. They had a flounder which was packed with flavour, and a katsu scallop sando that was a really cute snacky dish. Recommended!

This electric ferrry uses a very long extension cord - fun non-scalable solutions that are weird leftovers from a simpler time. Instead of thinking about big batteries and expensive storage, how ‘bout we just plug the ferry into the grid?
-
Missing the point of VR - a nice perspective about VR, especially regarding the fact that people keep wanting to recreate meatspace in the metaverse, when instead we should be unlocking the limitations of how we usually interact with things in real life, and go further beyond! Make a better experience and people will want to go there.

Ghosts - a fantastic piece of writing that uses GPT-3 to help finish the story that a writer wants to tell. Poignant, personal, and heart-breaking.
